I had a deeply concerning experience at Ocean Sushi. On 04/23/2025, I ordered three rolls, including a spicy tuna roll. After eating the majority of the rolls, I found what appeared to be a parasitic worm, likely an Anisakis parasite (which can cause Anisakiasis).

Shortly afterward, I developed severe gastrointestinal symptoms, including significant stomach distress and dizziness. I visited urgent care and the ER, spending $165 out of pocket, and was referred to a gastrointestinal specialist for further testing.

When I called the restaurant to report the issue, I was told a driver would come verify the food. Instead, the manager, the chef, and another staff member came to my house. One of them even brought a tray of raw tuna—despite my clear request not to bring any raw food onto my doorstep—and proceeded to dig their bare hands into the tuna without gloves. They remained outside my home for nearly 40 minutes, explicitly trying to dissuade me from escalating the matter with the Health Department. The entire incident is recorded on my Ring camera.

When I later spoke with the owner, Andy, he blamed the incident on “language and cultural barriers” and suggested that I could have gotten sick from “anything.” He refused to take responsibility or reimburse my medical expenses.

I have filed a formal complaint with the NYC Health Department and have preserved all evidence, including photos, video footage, and medical records. I strongly urge extreme caution if you are considering dining at Ocean Sushi.

I’ve also included a photo showing the difference between what may have been a strip of tuna fat (top) and what strongly resembles a parasitic worm (bottom). The difference in texture and shape is clear. I am not a food safety expert, but I trust my instincts — and I believe others should...

Moving out to NJ, the only thing I miss about Staten Island besides my family is Michelle and Ocean Sushi. I still order to go if Im passing through or sit down if i have time to spend. The sushi is always fresh and they bring in "exotics" for specials so you can pick other options besides tuna and salmon. The Uni (sea urchin) was so fresh that you have to fish them out from the sea to have any better. The tuna and fatty tuna were great. And the rolls are also very good. All the fish was fresh and tasty. My Salmon Skin Roll was bursting with crisp strips of salmon skin and the spicy tuna HR was flavorful and packed. The service is always friendly at this neighborhood sushi spot. They are welcoming and attentive. You'll never...

Ocean sushi is a new restaurant in annadale and I must say i was not disappointed. The service was top of the line and the workers were very helpful when it came to explaining different dishes and suggesting what we may enjoy. The quality of the fish is second to none and as someone who thoroughly enjoys sushi I can tell that all the fish was fresh. They even have a bar which was nice because me and my wife were able to have an couple drinks with our meal. All in all it was an excellent dining experience and I would recommend Ocean Sushi to anyone. Me and my family will sure be regulars...

Went to Ocean for a pre-Christmas Eve Seven Fishes dinner over the weekend, It was absolutely fabulous! Both the sushi and sashimi were superbly fresh and presented beautifully. Service was efficient and pleasant, despite having a full house and plenty of takeout orders being prepared and going out the door. We hadn't been to Ocean in a very, very long time but the owner and waitstaff still remembered us and greeted us warmly. Definitely worth the trip from the north end of the island, and definitely be back. Many thanks to the team at Ocean for another delicious and memorable night!

There was no dining at the place at all. Only take out or delivery. The food was pretty good. Dosen't seem much of a difference from any other sushi place. The rice was a little hard...may needed more water when cooking or that is what it is normally? Too bad there was no dining I would've love to try more dishes. I only have them 4 stars solely on what I gotten to eat. Still I wouldn't mind going back to this place the food was fresh.
