This is the place to go for AUTHENTIC comida Dominicana (Dominican food)! Do not let the exterior nor interior fool you; the chefs here bring it in terms of sabor (flavor).
The name on the exterior does not match the Olivero’s name; however, I assure you if you go to the corner of St. Nicholas Ave. and 191st, you’ve found it.
I had the Mofongo de Pollo, my girlfriend had chivo (goat) con mangú, we both had the Sancocho, and split an order of tostones. We finished off this delicious meal with flan.
My GF is from DR and she said “this is what the food in DR tastes like.” I am Mexican-American-Indian and I am now a lover of all comida Dominicana.
The sancocho was absolutely delicious. San I go is a stew with different meant and vegetables in a stew like broth that feels like a flavor explosion with each spoonful. If I had only eaten the sancocho I would have been extremely satisfied. The mofongo de pollo (chicken) was flavorful with a good amount of garlic which I LOVED, and comes with a good amount of chicken inside the plantain base. I love garlic, and it is good for the immune system, so non-garlic lovers beware. And they include some type of au jus to pour over the mofongo that sent the dish to the next level.
My Gf’s chivo was cooked to PERFECTION! Tender, juicy, flavorful, and the mangú was delicious as well. The tostones were cooked delicately with just the right amount of crispiness on the outside and softness on the inside.
And the flan, although not made in house (I believe) was delectable.
The staff is friendly and attentive. They made sure we had everything we needed and or WANTED.
Hidden gem.
Next time in the city, definitely coming here for another visit.
Cannot wait to try their other delicious...
Read moreMother ordered pork (pernil) on xmas eve when she gets home from work I open it and the first thing I see skin and fat ... which is disgustingly gross once I taste it best believe I gagged and spit it out as a Hispanic woman I know what a Pernil taste like and how is it that a well known restaurant does not know how to season a pork ESPECIALLY ON a day we celebrate with food and family . I called to explain our situation and some girl didn't even let me explain once I said i bought something she had me on hold for 3 min and I can hear in the background jibber jabber I hung up and called again .. guess what they didn't even let it ring twice instead of explaining my self to her again I told her I was going to the restaurant to return it When I get there the first thing the man said was "that's not our bag(the bag it came in ) I explained I threw it away once I opened it someone said well once it's open it can be dangerous (giving me an attitude) I said well it's dangerous how under seasoned it is I can get sick because it has no salt no vinegar nothing to kill the taste or blood from the animal and no I don't want nothing else I just want my money back. There was this lady next to him giving me a bigger attitude that if she doesn't walk away I probably yelled at her very aggressively and rude from the top of my lungs I yelled to everyone it is not my fault the chef cannot season a pig correctly .. got my...
Read moreI've been eating here for the past 10 years and so my rating may be a bit biased due to the emotional attachment I have to the restaurant. I'm also Dominican and grew up eating the food so I'm extra picky when it comes to eating Dominican food outside of my home (meaning it better be pretty damn good if I'm paying for it).
That being said, I usually order their chicharron de pollo with white rice and beans since it's always prepared very well.Their churrasco is also tasty. Their cuban sandwiches are alright, sometimes it is disappointing but for the most part it's on point. However, they have increased the pricing of the sandwiches throughout the years and the sandwiches haven't improved whatsoever in quality.
Overall, their portions are reasonable for the amount they charge and the quality of food is average. I've always taken my food to go so I don't know how they are as far as dining in goes, but they do provide pretty speedy and polite service at...
