Actually what happened was your POS (point of sale and not the other POS) system didn’t communicate my order (and only my order) to the pizza makers 3 feet away, at least that is what your cashier said. When my wife went to go find out why we’re waiting 30 minutes and people who arrived way after us were eating their pizza, your cashier said that we never paid… strike one… 15 minutes later, maybe he did it on purpose thinking my wife would just say screw it and give up, he figured out we did pay and that no one gave us the order…. Strike two Then instead of saying I am very sorry, dude never apologized once, because it was obviously either the POS cashier system’s fault or ours, he gets us the absolute worst slices, everything burnt… strike three. Me, I think your pizza was really good, and on very rare occasions, it still is good, but most of the time it’s this or something like this. My kid loves pizza, but not on this day. Then it got me thinking, why is Paulie Gee’s like this and I figured it out. You go to L’Industrie, they got a longer line than you, but still manage to give you good pizza. And do you know what… the cashier is behind the pizza counter. So I figured it out for you. Why your pizza used to be really good, because I remember when the cashier was behind the counter. You probably had the best slice in BK back then. I don’t write reviews, but your staff pissed me off, were rude to my wife, and disappointed my kid. Apologies, it was a d**k move. Did you move here from Ohio, make the trek to Greenpoint, and get a slice that everyone said you had to try? Did you tell everyone how much you loved it and then ordered Papa John’s a couple of weeks later because, Papa John’s is not bad? Does Paulie Gee’s deserve a comparison to Papa John’s? Probably not, but at least you won’t get a dry burnt slice from Papa John’s although you might be still chewing a few weeks later. Paulie Gee’s once had the perfect sourdough crust and deserved all the hype but not so much anymore. The crust isn’t as sour, or have the same texture, and it seems either like they cooked the pizza 8 hours ago expecting a surge that never came, or they tried to fill so many orders at the same time that someone pushed your pizza all the way to the back of the oven and then forgot it until they pulled all the other slices out. You know what real NY pizzerias don’t have. Cashiers. In a real NY pizza shop, everyone is making pizza. And because of that, you can get a pretty decent slice all over NY. If you see a dedicated cashier, separate from the pizza making area, you probably should leave. You want an upside down slice and don’t want to make the trek to L&B (don’t bother actually, they have similar problems as Paulie Gee’s.) go to Carmine’s on Graham. Yeah their slices might be a bit chewy, but their upside down slice is probably the closest to the way L&B was 30 years ago. How do I know? I grew up in Bensonhurst. If you’re in Williamsburg/Greenpoint, there is actually a lot of decent pizza in the neighborhood, or go get a taco. Ramirez makes a good one right around the corner. Just stay away from Franklin. No good pizza on Franklin. sLICe (in LIC) and Upside (on Manhattan) make a good sourdough crust and Traingolo (also on Manhattan) is about as old school and solid as they come in this neighborhood. No cashiers, no hype, Just...
Read morePaulie Gee's Slice Shop is perfect for pizza on the go for connoisseurs of ‘zza. meaning if you don't have time sit down and enjoy the wood-fired pizzas at the Franklin Street location then the Slice Shop is perfect for quick slices for discerning stomachs. the set up is pretty simple…order at the register and the staff will bring your eats to you outside (can’t wait inside) or if you have your vax card…you can dine in the colorful retro dining room that’s full of NY Yankee pics (LET’S GO YANKEES!) on the walls and glows with 70s/80s in mind. nice and clean. plenty of light and seating. there are several flatscreens on the walls and a couple bathrooms as well. eat here at least once, as this place has vibe of its own.
the pizza? really good, great, etc., you can heap on the compliments bc they are deserved. while the plain cheese slice and all the other pizza options here are totally worth trying…i’d say the pepperoni slice (round slice) is the most iconic and possibly the best offering at Paulie Gee’s. the slice is the definition of classic NYC pizza with the most iconic topping ‘roni. this is a thin slice—nice amount crunch and char without being cracker-y. nice flop so the crust has balanced give / firm crust and soaks in the the olive oil & sauce sitting on it without become mush. the layers of sauce and melted mozzarella make for an addictive flavor combo of sweet, salty, and fattiness. the pepperoni cooked to cupped status adds that additional savoriness and cured meat saltiness that just makes the slice pop from being tasty to being time machine back to good ol’ days of NYC pizza where finding great pizza made from great ingredients was a norm not a rarity. pepperoni slice $4.50 + tax + tip
the staff is chilled and nice. they work work to make your pizza experience memorable amidst the madness of hungry pizza zombie herds and orders upon orders. treat them...
Read moreUnderrated hot honey pizza in Greenpoint, Brooklyn!! The sesame crust of their Sicilian pizza is a game-changer.
The vibes at Paulie Gee’s Slice Shop are unmatched. While a pizza shop is usually a grab-and-go fast food spot, they created a family-friendly space with dining room, family bathroom, and televisions playing sports and cartoons. The dining booths by the window are giving nostalgic vibes.
I was more impressed by the friendly and attentive service. The owner came out and asked for people’s thoughts. Staff members checked in with customers from time to time. They even helped us find and clean a table at rush hour.
Worth to mention they have a wide selection of vegan pizzas, like vegan pepperoni, vegan sausage and vegan vidalia.
*Hellboy Square $5.75 * The Hellboy Square deserved all the stars. Served on a sesame crust, it was topped with pepperoni, crushed tomatoes, mozarella, and a drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey.
The crust was light and fluffy with a chewy texture. The bottom was fully covered with sesame seed, giving it a really nice crunch. I might actually like this one more than Prince St. I’ll definitely come back for their Sicilian pizza.
*The Mootz $4.75 We were recommended to try The Mootz, which was made of mozzarella, fresh garlic, and Pecorino cheese. It tasted like cheesy garlic bread in a pizza form.
We liked the pie structure because it wasn’t too floppy like some NY style pizzas. The bottom was not oily at all. Wished it was more garlicky and served hot. Worth a try if you’re a...
