Pretty waterfront park with spectacular views, actually the only park with grass within a mile of my house where my son can run and play on a lawn. The local community run "Friends of Transmitter Park", comprised of longtime greenpoint residents, are growing a lovely natural style garden there as well. The playground is small and decent for little ones up to age 4 or 5 (summer water feature, slides, pretend play structures and climbing obstacles). Great view of the city with a pier to stroll. Only downsides here: old radio transmitter building not in use which could be converted to toilets and the truly major downside that everyone breaks the 'no dogs on grass' rule here and destroys both the only grass on which my son and many other kids have to play and makes me apprehensive about him playing freely due to the fact that I've witnessed multiple dogs attack one another in this park when their owners had their dogs off leash or lost control. If the dog owners weren't so disrespectful it would be an even better place. This is NOT a dog park but people seem to continue to use...
Read moreThis park gives me life! I love how beautiful and clean it is. The view of Manhattan is breathtaking from this side. I delight myself eating by the water every so often. There is no better scene for me than this. There is something about sitting on the grass and eating as the wind kisses my face and the sun warms my skin. The sound of the water is hypnotizing. I don't think any park will ever top this one for me, at least not in Brooklyn. I have never seen this park packed or witnessed any rachets. It's a chill spot indeed. I recommend this park for the dog lovers, sun lovers, yoga-goers, and all those in between. I have not indulged in a glass of wine as I have seen others do, but I am sure that's hella nice too. I have been here early mornings and late nights. The sweetest spot for me is in between; when the sun is setting.

As a Native New Yorker, I'm always trying to find great places to relax and enjoy my city. This Park fits the bill. Amazing ocean side views, areas to play and work out, food, drinks and free parking. Yes parking (if you park further south).
During the warmer seasons you'll find me having a beer and fries, taking photos or simply sun bathing as Transmitter Park is perfect for all the above. There are bike paths, jogging routes and even a sand pit for volleyball.
The main selling point is the lack of tourist traffic. The Highline Park was one of the greatest parks for NY residents to chill and relax, however it's serving the greater good of New York by being a massive tourist attraction. That's great, however you can't just sit and relax anymore.
Oh there is a Ferry to the city as...
