Plum Restaurant & Lounge — Restaurant in New York

Pleasantly, pleasantly, pleasantly surprised!!! Upon finding this restaurant in my Google search after 11 p.m. on a Tuesday night (due to working late), I was peeved by the prices. Actually, mi did IGNORANT bad! Drove to another restaurant on Emmons Avenue that was usually open until 2a.m. only to be told they were closing at 12p.m. Still, I continued searching restaurants on the strip via Google. Reluctantly, I was convinced to go to Plum Restaurant & Lounge. The hostess was courteous and the server Davean was welcoming and attentive. The order included curry goat with white (jasmine) rice, curry coconut shrimp with white (jasmine) rice, mac and cheese, fried sweet plantains, whiskey ice tea, gin & ting and guinness bread pudding. Now, let me break down the order of delivery to the table. Firstly, the drinks were refreshing and the gin & ting had an unexpected kick at the end with the ginger beer. Secondly, the curry goat was tender (mi neva expect dat), the shrimp was fresh and the rice, steamed broccoli and carrots were not over cooked. Plus, the hot sauce received was flavorful and did not burn out my daylights (good look). 🫡 The sides arrived in short order and the plantains were actually sweet and not forced to ripe thus, no conflict if it was a green plantain that needed a few more weeks to ripen. Nope, sweet all the way. The entrees and sides did that, but wait, not done yet. The guinness bread pudding arrived and at that point Plum Restaurant jus kick weh my foot! Listen, I have yet to find a Jamaican/fusion restaurant that offers bread pudding and if rarely ever found, does it well. I am the person who travels to Jamaica and must return to NY with Devon House bread pudding or my mother has to, so I know bread pudding. Mi seh, Plum Restaurant owners, chefs, staff, unu really fix my business. Listen, that bread pudding was the cherry on top. Who a complain bout price? Not me! When food, drinks, service and bread pudding good, sorry, great, how is price an issue? It's not. Wait, there's more. The bill was not even $200 or even very close to it.😲 Can you imagine? I couldn't, but it's true. Plum Restaurant, di real suga plum plum, you have a customer right here. This was excellent! Thank goodness I was convinced to dine here. Now listen, PLEASE maintain this standard. Please don't be one of those Jamaican/fusion restaurants that start off well then disappoint shortly down the line. I implore you, don't be one of those. Man, this spot was not it. When my original plans didn’t work out, I went to TikTok to look up some fun spots in Brooklyn. I found Plum and came as a party of TWO (2). When we got there, we were seated within 10 minutes of arriving, so that was fine, but once we were seated at around 6pm, everything went downhill from there.

A waiter did not come to our table to even greet us, until 6:35pm (35 minutes after us being there). We weren’t offered WATER until another 15 minutes after that (about 50 minutes of us being there in total).

I noticed another couple behind me get their appetizers before me, which was unfair because they arrived several minutes after my party was seated.

Our food and drinks did not come until 7:20pm … almost an hour and a half (1.5) hours of waiting after being seated.

The waiter brought both of our food and drinks out, however, he gave us mac & cheese instead of our wings appetizer. When we informed him of this mistake, it took another 15-20 minutes for them to bring out the correct dish. The wings APPETIZER did not arrive at our table until AFTER we finished the rest of our food, including our main course (so basically we were just eating wings by itself at that point).

Because of this, we asked for a to-go box at 8pm, and man, don’t even get me started. We asked 2 different waiters (one of them we asked twice !) and still, no box. After waiting about 20 minutes to no avail for a stupid container, we finally left. This sucked because obviously we paid for the food and we didn’t even get to finish eating it or take it home.

There was a large dinner party at the lounge the same time as us, so I’m not sure if they were only paying attention to them, but my table definitely felt neglected for sure.

The service here was horrible, which is honestly unfortunate because the food wasn’t too bad. However, the amount of time we had to wait and sit, bored, killed the vibe and ruined the experience. I do not...

Went here on a date. My partner has a severe allergy to seafood. We explained this to the waiter a few times and she proceeded to place our order. Time passes and no drinks no customer service yet waiters is behind the bar in her phone. She comes back to our table about 20 minutes later stating our order never went through and asked us to repeat the order. We reiterated that he has allergy to seafood and asked again wether the plantains were fried in the same oil as the seafood. Of course she went back to her phone and we never received a response. When the server came out with our food we asked about the plantains being cooked in seafood oil again and was told that they in fact were NOT. I had asked for white rice so my plate was taken back to the kitchen which is why my partner decided to wait to eat. A minute later the server came running out saying they could not serve us the plantains and snatched it off there table she stated there were no other sides they could offer. A gentleman later brings out plantains when we are close to finishing our food explaining that they were cooked in different oil but by that point we did not feel comfortable eating them. There is clearly a lack of communication and the customer service sucks. At that point that was the least of my worries my partner has an allergy that could potentially lead to anaphylaxis and that should in no way shape or form be taken lightly. And the rest of the night the poor customer service continued as we waited quite a while for a simple corona.
