I was really excited to learn of a new viet restaurant opening right around the corner of my house. We stopped by on a weeknight and it was empty, so service was excellent. We got the appeitizer platter and the pho dac biet with beef balls. The wings were nice and crispy. The spring rolls were good. The summer rolls were loosely rolled, but had mangos in it, so different from other places, so I really enjoyed that. I didn't really understand why there was viet ham in the appetizer. Do we eat it alone? Felt kinda out of place. Would prefer something different to replace that. I def loved the spicy sauce that came with the platter though. The pho was good, but not out of this world. I did love that they were very generous with the meats in it. Thai ice tea was great. I do wish their menu was a little more expansive, but that's fine because they are more focused on making whatever is on their menu good. I would definitely come...
Read moreIt’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything worthwhile. The family and I had a wonderful day at the Jersey Shore with some good friends and family. On our travels back home we decided to look for a place to have dinner passing through Staten Island. My wife found Ran Viet and was craving Vietnamese food for along time, boy were we not disappointed. From the outside it looks like any typical eatery yet inside felt homey and relaxed. We were greeted by our host with a smile and good vibes. She was quick and very organized . Our order was taken and with a blink of an eye our meals were ready, they were plated beautifully and may I say the portions were huge, my take out was a meal of its self. The flavors and aromas just hit you like a flavor train. We haven’t had Pho broth this good in along time. We are definitely adding this gem for whenever we pass through Staten Island it’s a place you just don’t...
Read moreAs a full-Vietnamese person who goes to Vietnam every year in all three regions, this place is pretty decent. I went to a lot of Vietnamese places owned by people who are not Viet but this owner and chef somewhat know their stuff. I ordered the pork chops with noodles — the pork chops were pretty good, but the bones need to be taken out. The fish sauce needs more improvement though, I recommend to the owner and chef that fish sauce paired with these dishes like Com Tam and Bun Thit Nuong need to have more sweetness than acidity so make sure to add more sugar and boil it down with hot water and regular fish sauce with the logo that have the crabs on it and mix it together well. Do understand that fish sauce is...
