SRI LANKA 🇱🇰 Eat the World NYC review: Do you remember the original San Rasa down on Bay Street in Tompkinsville? The spot that is now a Senegalese restaurant? Before it briefly moved up the hill in St. George, it was cooking pretty wonderful foods and even had a lovely beer garden of all things! Close to the ferry, it was like heaven on earth Staten Island. When it moved, it changed hands and the location just was not as nice, closing its doors after a short time.

The chef/owner of that original San Rasa is back here much further west on the island in Bulls Head, conveniently right off a Staten Island Expressway exit. Open since the end of 2016, fortunes finally aligned to have a meal here and it was a true regret to have waited so long. He seems just as talented as ever, although unfortunately there was no replication of the beer garden.

In the mood for the black lamb curry, an order of hoppers ($15) was placed with it. You can also order curries on their own with sides of basmati rice, but hoppers are more representative of how you might eat it in Sri Lanka. An order comes with five, one of which has an egg cooked inside, perfectly runny when punctured. Tear off pieces of the delicate "bowls" and scoop chunks of meat and curry to eat. These are made with fermented rice flour but given a slight sweetness from...

I went for the buffet which is only on Sundays and $18.95 which is a little higher than other Indian buffets. I was expecting a great experience but was totally disappointed and walked out hungry. There were very few choices to choose from. The only main courses were Tandoori chicken and whole shrimp with the shells on in a curry sauce which was very messy to eat. The shrimp should have been peeled for that dish. After only having put out a few pieces of Tandoori chicken, they decided to put in its place little cut up pieces of chicken bones in a BBQ sauce. Not good. The few side dishes consisted of hard boiled eggs floating in a heavy cream sauce and cheap ingredient dishes like sliced carrots in a sauce and lentils in another sauce. The lentils were not even cooked well enough and were crunchy. I've been to many Indian and SRI LANKAN buffets and was never given PITA BREAD before instead of fresh baked traditional NAAN bread. No samosas either which was surprising. Also only little bottles of warm water was on table. No ice or glasses. I can only assume the positive reviews on here are from family and friends of...

We had the Hoppers with Chicken and String Hoppers with Dhal (as the veggie and ask for Kiri sodi). We enjoyed everything but the chicken curry. The curry it self didn't have any flavor and chicken tasted dry and not soft. But the Dhal was an award winning dish for sure and so was the poll Sambol (coconut spice).👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 Recommendation; Reduce the price of Ceylon tea (Lipton tea bag) since it you don't provide free refills, do not charge $4.00 per tea when it is just a half a cup of hotwaty🤔😲. Second recommendation: ability to order just string Hoppers of its own than with a curry and also ability include string Hoppers be it any other type of dish with any other curry from the spice menu, for example devil beef and string Hoppers. There shouldn't be a difference since the price is the same if you look at it with rice or with Hoppers, kottu, strings.... The service is very good and very...

Absolutely disgusting! Don’t know how they have so many good reviews. Came on a weekend for their buffet and everything was stale, starting to rot or completely finished. They price remained the same. The food was atrocious and made with no love much less any flavor. The dessert was equally as terrible with multiple gelatin based cheaply made items that looks like someone dropped a brain on my plate (pictures for reference). The deserts notable to Sri Lanka were finished which is quite laughable for a Sri Lankan restaurant. Some patrons were given special dishes to make up for it, but actual Sri Lankans who came in search for some comfort from the motherland were told there is nothing for them. Smells terrible inside too! Atrocious service absolutely disgusting food and money grab. You’re better off going somewhere else. Energetic ever coming back again
