Best Indian cuisine in town. Very famous and popular in the neighborhood.

Vegetable samosa is simply perfect. In other restaurants I never order it. I thought I did not like it until I tasted the one they make. Must try.

Yellow lentil soup is mild and plentiful.

My all time favorite is Shrimp Vindaloo. Best killingly spicy dish. There is also a lamb and a chicken version of it. Last time I had the lamb, but all of them are great.

Usually I am afraid of ordering any lamb because most of the time I feel a peculiar side taste of the meet. In this restaurant lamb is mild without any of this peculiar strong taste I feel at other places sometimes.

Finishing any vindaloo dish is a great challenge. This is the most hot dish you can ever have. But for some reason besides the hotness you discover plenty of other joyful tastes. Our waiter offered yogurt to help to win the struggle against the lamb vindaloo. This was a good idea, I recommend it for everyone. If you are a beginner with really hot, spicy food, stay away. If you are fond of hot dishes vindaloo is a must have.

I had rice pudding for dessert. If you win the fight against any vindaloo dish dessert is not that important really but this is a good light thing to finish with.

Always ask your waiter and follow his recommendations.

All dishes are very tasty and enjoyable. Vindaloo is only for the pros. But for them they are a must have.

Other members of my family did like the fennel chicken and the chicken biryani. Those dishes there are not indicated by one or two pieces of red paprikas, are coming mild. They say medium spicy but for me they are not hot at all. May be spicy but not hot. So if you would like something hot, not very hot just to feel it really moderately, you have to ask for it.

So please do not afraid, if you are not fond of really hot as spicy food, the rest of the dishes are mild but with various enjoyable tastes.

I would recommend to order naahm bread on the side. Sorry if I spelled it wrong…

Service is good. You are always well taken care of.

Try it, believe me you...

I went to Seva today for the first time. I ordered the prix fixe dinner combo with the butternut squash soup, lamb rogan josh, garlic naan ($2 upcharge), and kheer. I also did an a la carte order of samosas. Total dinner price $28.

EVERYTHING was absolutely amazing and delicious and of wonderful quality and portion size. The samosas were MASSIVE. I'm a 230 pound fat guy whose primary enjoyment in life is eating good food. I judge restaurants harshly for portion sizes that skinny people might consider to be reasonable. Seva exceeded even my expectations. They had perfect crispiness, an amazing spice blend, and the tamarind chutney was glorious. (Not so much a fan of the mint chutney, but alas).

The garlic naan appeared to be regular naan with a couple of spoonfuls of minced garlic baked into it. Nothing special there, but still very good.

The butternut squash soup came out piping hot and extremely fresh, and as time went on and the temperature cooled, you could pick up additional flavors and nuances, similar to how good whisky changes in your glass over time as it gets exposed to air.

The lamb rogan josh was chock full of lamb chunks, so no skimping on portions here. The spiciness was perfect for me (I asked for "medium spicy" and they hit my thresholds almost exactly). The curry was full of myriad spices and flavor (could use more cumin though), and it tasted quite fresh and of quite high quality.

And kheer is kheer -- hard to mess this up unless you undercook the rice, and Seva did not undercook the rice.

Additionally, their service style appears to be such where multiple servers take care of all the tables at once (or, at least, this is true for water refills), and my water cups were never empty and I was very well taken care of in general in terms of service.

I love Indian food very much and when people tell you Seva is the best Indian restaurant in Astoria, they're not lying. I'm a believer now. I...

A good service on the first place, almost all Seva's employees are attentive from the first time you step in. If they are packed, they will write you down and put on the waiting list (max 15-20min.) and you can check your status via Yelp app. So I highly recommend reservation before you go there, if you want to avoid waiting. The menu is quite moderate but you'lle be able to find a good selection of Indian traditional and authentic dishes. Don't visit this place if you don't prefer a little bit heavier food, enriched with a dazzling array of oriental spices and condiments. Nutty, earthy, and rich flavors go w/o saying. My recommendarion are their Sample Platter (it's for two, be advised), Nan (traditional wheat flat bread) and some of the curries (veggie, chicken or lamb), served with perfectly cooked basmati rice. Seva doesn't prepare beef meat, guys, and don't ask for it. The reason is obvious for Indian culture and tradition: cows are holy animals back in India. The portions are enormous, so keep that in mind. Otherwise, you will get a lot food for take away. Seva has an average prices and it's on a good location in Astoria (5min. from N/W station on 30th Avenue), despite the fact it's not a huge venue at all (total occupation is around 30 people at one time). Their kitchen is dowstairs, including the toilet (I suppose). And they do a lot of deliveries as I've see (GRUBHUB, UBER EATS, SEAMLESS). In addition, they serve genuine Indian lager beer - premium TAJ MAHAL (yellow label, lighter, bottled and brewed in India) and 1947 (red label, under license bottled and brewed in PA). Another thing that I've noticed: they are extremely well organized, considering the fact they work in a very small space. All FOH staff (manager, servers, bussers, runners, delivery boys) work in the restaurant which can be compared with a small studio, I'm not kidding! Update: due to obvious inflation, they raised their price,...

Great place. I am a person who doesn’t have Indian food very often but this is still to date my best experience yet. Very delicious and comforting - I felt so happy and just comforted after my meal. ☺️ also, I am vegan and the menu is very vegan friendly, which is always appreciated. I had the vegan cauliflower main dish called Aloo Gobi Matar. Really nice- the roti was fun to eat it with. Also tried to two vegan appetizers - vegetable samosas and pakora. I would recommend the pakora if I had to choose one but worth getting both to try them. Lastly, the staff was very nice and accommodating and made an effort to check up on us a few times to make sure we were enjoying everything. Five star! I can’t say I would change anything - but caveating I do not have a lot of experience with trying different Indian restaurants. Edit: we went to Seva again. I wanted to come on here to double check the rating because they are in fact five star for a few reasons: 1) their food is delicious and homey and feel good food 2) the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, 3) this place doesn’t break the bank at all and is very reasonable which in NYC is saying something and 4) the staff is wonderful. This time I tried to Chana Masala and we ordered it with the roti. It comes with basmati rice but I didn’t eat the rice. The chana masala was amazing. Another meal reco for a vegan or anyone in general who likes chickpea dishes.

This Indian restaurant has my heart! It’s one of the best I’ve ever had in NY! If you’ve never tried Indian food or have had a bad experience, this will blow your mind! As an appetizer, we got a vegetable samosa with a potato, and green pea turnover filling. This was absolutely delicious and I loved the two sauces that were given on the bottom. They enhanced the flavor of the samosa and made it less dry. We also got garlic naan, plain naan, and cheese stuffed naan. Each came with 4 pieces. My favorite was the garlic because of how flavorful it was and how well it went with the tikka masala. I wasn’t a fan of the cheese that was stuffed into the naan. Overall though I love how fresh it was and how it came out to us hot! For entrees, I got a tikka masala (one of their best sellers, something the workers recommend). This was literally so mouth watering! The chicken was clean with zero fat, and the sauce was tasty! I got it mild, but it was still super spicy 😭 We also got a butter chicken. This tasted exactly like the tikka masala and not really like butter chicken. The last dish we got was a vegetarian meal called Saag Paneer. It had spinach, cheese, ginger and garlic. I didn’t like this meal but the other people at my table did. The consistency wasn’t my favorite. In all, I would definitely go back for their naan, and tikka masala! If you’re looking for some delicious Indian in NY, this is the spot!! 🤍

I forgot that I came here once before a little over 7 years ago - I loved the food then, and loved it all over again. I unintentionally got the same thing (Baigan Bhartha) but apparently enjoyed it just as much as I did last time. It has a nice slow kick even though it was "regular" (i.e. least spicy), but it wasn't overwhelming and the various spices came through nicely. I also had their butternut squash soup which was divine! Very smooth, lightly sweet from the butternut squash, but balanced with with savory spices but especially the caraway seeds that were sprinkled on top. An excellent flavor profile. I couldn't eat all the soup at the beginning of the meal because it was actually almost too hot to eat. But halfway through eating my main entree, I was able to finish the soup and it tasted so good in between bites of the Baigan Bhartha. The boyfriend also thoroughly enjoyed his Lamb Korma. We were both very satisfied with our meal, and we both had at least half of our entrees as leftovers. Letting those herbs and spices marinate together even longer made for delicious leftovers. They very clearly indicate on their menu which items are vegan. Most of the entrees are by default gluten-free, but there were not many breads or appetizers that were gluten-free aside from the soups.
