NYC Cafe | Don't Miss Tartinery's Brunch 🍳

Went to try this place out for a Saturday lunch to see what it was like. We ordered a Croque Monsieur and beet, goat cheese salad with extra chicken. The Croque Monsieur was pretty plain with ham and cheese on top of the bread. It was fine but had much better before. The salad was fine, if a little light on dressing. We also ordered a pain au chocolat, which again was fine. The problem was the service was sooooo painfully slow and our waiter seemed to be either new or really disorganized. There weren't that many people in the place but it took ages for him to give us our menus after we'd sat down. Then ages to come back to take the order, then ages to bring the food, getting the idea yet? Oh, he also forgot to bring the pain au chocolat until I reminded him and forgot to being the pen for the bill, but at least the bill came reasonably quick! I would hope the lunch time service is faster otherwise this place is toast - literally. 😓 It could have been easily sorted out if the person behind the counter had helped out a bit, but I presume that's not in his job description. I'm interested to try out some of the other offerings but not looking forward to the service.

We fancied a light brunch on our way up to the Broadway theatre for a matinee show of The Buena Vista Social Club and as we had enjoyed our brunch at the Tartinery café & bar in Greenwich Village last week, we decided to try their branch on Park Ave. The café was very busy with a lot of office workers having lunch, however, we were shown to a small table for two without having to wait. The menu at this branch was very silmilar to the one at Greenwich Village, however, they didn't have the eggs benedict my wife really enjoyed there, so she had the avocado on toast with the additional of a soft poached eggs today, which she really enjoyed, and a latte. I went for the lunch combo deal of a delicious creamy chestnut & mushroom soup with a fantastic chicken salad petite tartine with celery & pistachio. We also ordered a very tasty ham & cheese croissant to share whilst we waited for our main courses. We were served by a very friendly and helpful waitress and used the male & female toilets at the back of the café. There's also a takeaway counter near the entrance selling pastries & hot drinks to go.

The venue itself has potential, but the service was extremely disappointing and unprofessional.

I ordered a salmon toast and was trying to add scrambled eggs to it. When asked about quantity, I said 2 (eggs). The staff member (missing a tooth) was mumbling throughout the interaction, making it very difficult to understand him, especially since English is my second language and his accent was unclear. He then shoved a screen panel in front of me with countless options and text, which made me feel uncomfortable as I couldn’t navigate it properly due to the language barrier and lack of assistance.

In the end, I only received 2 plain eggs - not the salmon toast with eggs that I was trying to order. Complete miscommunication and zero effort to help clarify what I actually wanted.

The experience started poorly when I was asked if dining in or takeout. When I said dine-in, a card was shoved into my hand. When I tried to look at the menu on the wall, I was rudely rushed to find a table as if I was being told to get out of the way.

The staff showed zero professionalism and a dismissive attitude throughout. I regret leaving a tip - in Europe, we don’t tip for such poor service. It’s a shame because the place itself seems nice, but the service completely ruins the experience.

Staff training on customer service and patience with non-native speakers is...

On Sunday June 1st my family and I went into grab some lunch, food was delicious and waitress was very polite and attentive, we was seated outside and the waitress was coming every 5 min to check on us, making sure we were ok. we even order more food for to go, at the end we needed to use the restroom so we went inside and had to wait because some customers were taking long, when I was leaving I saw my mom seating on the table and told her to go really quick since they were about to close, she stands up and when she starts walking to the restroom the bartender screams at her “I SAID YOU CANT USE THE RESTROOM” in a Nasty manner I looked at him and let him know we weren’t there just for the restroom we were there consuming their products, when another one jumps in and starts talking about they closed 20 min ago and they been saying that. But then why you let my mother in? You couldn’t tell her that she couldn’t get in because it was closed?, I asked for them to be polite and respectful since we are their customers and customers can’t be treated that way, HE HAD THE AUDACITY TO SAY “THERES NO CUSTOMERS” so for him we were nothing I guess. If you don’t want customer to use your restroom don’t let them in after closing time. Mind you they weren’t even done cleaning or anything and is not like we were asking for more food or anything. Very...
