I am an IHG Diamond Member. When I was looking for a stay for my arrival at NYE, this hotel attracted my attention as they requested fewer reward points for NYC. A "neutral" name is typically a sign of a transition from one brand to another: here, from Iberostar to Kimpton. We had pretty good experiences in other hotels in transition since we were primarily accommodated in renovated rooms. We were looking for the final result and remained loyal after the transition. When we booked, we wrote that we needed a twin configuration. The GM confirmed that they would put a note in our booking, but when we arrived, they had no twin rooms, and as far as we understood, there was no twin room in this hotel anyway. Subsequent disappointment: the hotel does not mention on their homepage that they do not offer a room service but forgot to mention that there is no restaurant. I cannot get complimentary breakfast as a Diamond Member. The best reason to be an IHG member. You get only 500 points, which is worth nothing compared to daily breakfast in an expensive city like NYC. They charge you a resort fee for "nothing." As an IHG member, I should get free internet anyway. Who needs free local calls when most guests have cell phones and a flat rate plan? For the access to the gym 24/7 only? You get a one-time discount coupon for a Danish bakery to replace the breakfast. The other coupons are for a Belgian Chocolate maker or a department store within 30-45 minutes of walking distance — and two bottles of water for the entire stay as a welcome drink. Coffee capsules were not filled up during a three-night stay. We asked for a second blanket since they cannot offer a twin room. They provided linen and a blanket, and we had to do it ourselves. The next day, the housekeeping separated the blankets and linen, and we could do the work again. The front desk was friendly. The rooms were clean (but you could see the traces of the extended operation as a hotel, and they all needed to be freshened up). The lack of restaurants could be easily compensated with discount coupons for every night in locations within a 5-minute walk distance from the hotel: between the hotel and Grand Central Terminal. There were so many great places to have breakfast. The area is one of the best you can get in NYC for a tourist visit. So many places were walkable. We need only a one-time subway to get to Chinatown. Indeed, I got the questionnaire during our stay, and I wrote down my issues. The reaction of the General Manager was well prepared and blab la (general phrases): arrogant, callous, and disinterested in content. Have your camping equipment and personal microwave when you stay, and you will have one of the best places to stay in NYC geographically. If you expect a modern-stylish hotel, yes, the lobby is modern-stylish. The hotel does not cooperate with a garage around the corner, which allows hotel residents to park at half price against the presentation of a booking confirmation. I usually get points when I book for a friend under my IHG account. But they did not give them. He told me that the hotel charged him to use the mini-bar after check-out, although the...
Read moreThis place has really gone down hill. The service is horrible and the rooms are really starting to look worn out. The deal breaker for me was being told that the room I had booked was unavailable and that my first night I would be in a room with a “fold out” and then the second night I would be given a suite. I was handed a bottle of wine and sent up to the top floor. Turns out, I had been given the living room of a suite that was also occupied by other guests! There were doors separating the bedroom but I could see right through the crack in the doors and I’m sure the other guests could too! There was no deadbolt on these doors and it appeared as though a credit card might easily trip the latch. Definitely didn’t feel secure. On top of that, the fold out bed was the most uncomfortable I’ve ever been on.
I called the front desk and told them I paid for a bed and expected one, otherwise I would sleep on a friend’s sofa for free. They reluctantly told me to come to the desk and they would give me a bed. I went down, and was totally polite. I joked that I’d really rather have a bed than a bottle of wine, and they said - no problem, we understand, keep the wine. I set it down on the desk and when they were making my new keys, one of the clerks took the bottle of wine away! Literally the most awkward hotel experience ever.
Finally got to my new room to find a double bed (not even a queen, and a TV at a 90 degree angle). I’d specifically booked this place because I had a much nicer room before. Hotel Tonight asked the hotel for a refund and they refused! Fortunately HT gave me a credit so I could rebook at a proper hotel.
The behavior at Iberostar was unprofessional and unethical. They were oversold and absolutely should issue a full refund to Hotel Tonight. (For the record I booked on HT a week and a half in advance, so no excuses for a last minute mistake.)
NYC has so many other hotels at this price point that offer better service and accommodation. Iberostar really needs...
Read moreShady business practices! Stay away at all costs! Upon check in super late after a long day of traveling, I discovered the room I booked was not available and the only option was a room with a pull out couch. There was no bed! (See photos) I went downstairs immediately to complain and was told by the manager Luis there was a glitch in the system and it was the 3rd party booking's fault, but they can upgrade me for the next two nights. I call Priceline and found out they oversold the hotel and that's why they gave us the pull out couch and was only able to negotiate a 25% discount for the first night. This was 2am and I just wanted to get some sleep, not to deal with this! I was going to try and make the best of the situation.
The pull out couch was slanted and the room was loud. I got zero sleep, so I went and complained to the manager Alfred the next day. He said he couldn't do anything to help me and I had to talk to the other manager Luis. He said he would leave a message with Luis, but I never got a call from him. I come to find out that this room is called the "parlor" and it's actually the living room of the presidential suite! So it's not an actual room! They wouldn't give me a refund for my first night.
I booked this hotel 2 months in advance, so the fact that they lied about their mess up shows they don't care about their customers. I had to call Priceline! Why stay here when they can mess up your reservation at anytime and lie about it? And then pretend like they're doing you a huge favor by upgrading your room (which isn't better anyway, besides having an actual bed). Unbelievable! Take your money where you will be...
