I am so glad that the new owner took over the restaurant, giving back its original quality and vibe. The owner is very particular on the food ingredients (strictly no frozen meats allowed) with air-imported the original spices and noodles from his hometown Uyghur to make his "Taste of Urumqi" pure.
The restaurant has only opened for 1 week, but I am already addicted to the menu. Although I think you could just order from the menu blindly, here is some of my personal tips:
Big plate chicken denotes a "three yellow chicken" to provide its best presentation on its tenderness and freshness.
Braised oxtail/lamb with carrot have rich and savory broths and the owner indulges you by his generous portions.
Leghmen and dry-fired noodles are chewy and well-balanced with meat, fresh vegetables, and spices to make their flavors irresistible yet homey.
My favorite is Lamb Pilaf/plov (well-stewed with juicy chunk of lamb, carrots, raisins, and yellow-radish from uyghur).
For the kebabs, I honestly recommend you try everything regardless if you were meat-eater, just be aware of its big portion.
Hint: ask the Chief if there is any "secret menu" that will surprise you.
Again, the place is newly open, cozy, and friendly adding to the overall authentic and welcoming experience. If you're seeking a culinary adventure or satisfying your routine primitive cravings, the Taste of Urumqi is a must-visit and...
