Tang Huo Kung Fu coincidentally called me in; it had a weird intrigue, perhaps because it had Korean text in its name, and I was craving mala dry pot. The overall vibe is clean. It is predominantly white with accents of red, and it almost seems too purely white, giving it an empty appearance, but it also offers a sterile vibe, which is always nice in a restaurant. It was quiet and not crowded when I visited around 6:30 PM, probably because it had recently opened. The DIY ingredient section for the mala soup or dry pot was great because it was clean and allows you to portion your foods. There was a variety of selection, and I was surprised to see 분모자 (Fenhaozi) since not many places have it. It was interesting how you could choose the amount of meats you want, but there were also items that had set portions, such as the shrimp paste, beef tendon, and beef tripe. The labeling was confusing at first, and I do think there could be a better way to rearrange the proteins for clarity. Now for the food… while I do have to give them a break since I did take out vs eat at the restaurant, I was disappointed at both the portion and the quality. Having gotten delivery from several other places in Flushing, I almost paid a similar amount for 1.5 or more times the food. The difference, I guess, is that this is a DIY spot that strictly weighs ingredients versus Uber Eats orders that cannot really be weighed. The portion difference is huge in my opinion. Moreover, the food seemed slightly overcooked, resulting in dried out meats, which was sad. I suppose it might have been less cooked if I had eaten at the restaurant versus carrying it home. The service, on the other hand, was great; no complaints. The two workers there were prompt and nice. I also saw them serving the food to the customers and cleaning the plates, which I thought was tricky. There is a tipping section at payment, so that would be an early tipping situation, and I would have felt bad not tipping them as much. The bathroom was clean, which I assume is because it is recently opened, and I hope it stays that way. I am not sure if I would come back based on the take out quality, but having read reviews and compliments on the malatang, maybe that is something I would have to try next time at the restaurant.

When I tell you this is by far the best hotpot I’ve had in Flushing EVER, I am NOT JOKING!! The place is clean, has an excellent vibe, was absolutely busy when I got there, but everyone is heads down in their soup. Whoever is in the kitchen making the soup base? My extreme compliments. It was seasoned to perfection. When the register person brought us our soups and the stir fry (he recommended we make it a little spicy and that was an excellent recommendation), the temperature was perfect to eat and not get burned, and the soup was warm and filling. And the person at the register was SUPER patient with my mom, (who asks, “what’s this?”, with everything that is at the food intake area). He was very, very kind. There are more eating utensils in storage spaces in the tables, you pull it out from the side. I grew up in Flushing and have eaten hotpot a million times, (it’s one of my favorite dinner foods), so having this place pop up out of nowhere and be a phenomenal place to eat was an absolutely pleasant happy surprise. Thank you very much for attending us. We will be repeat customers!! (Sorry I didn’t take a photo of my food, I got distracted and ate it all before I could. It looked great though!)

I recently visited Tang Huo Kung Fu Malatang, and it was an incredible experience! The variety of fresh ingredients to choose from was amazing—everything from fresh vegetables to seafood, tofu, and meat options. I loved how customizable the meal was, from the spice level to the broth flavor, making it perfect for any palate. The broth was rich and flavorful, and the ingredients were cooked to perfection. The staff was friendly, helpful, and quick to explain how to build the perfect bowl. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy, with a vibrant yet relaxed vibe. If you're looking for a unique and satisfying meal, Tang Huo Kung Fu is a must-visit! I’ll definitely be returning to try even more combinations. Highly recommended! 🌟
