Have been coming to this gym for coming up to 5 years and never had a problem.
Some of my highlights about the gym: Staff - I feel comfortable reporting that I haven't had a bad interaction with any of them. Most of the staff are super respectful and helpful if you have any questions. It helps building rapport with them so you can have those friendly interactions before bringing any issue or concern to them. All of my concerns regarding gym access or amenities for my kids or updates on gym fixes were always addressed without issue.
Kid Programs - From what I see, the kids who participate in the afterschool appear to be having a ton of fun. My kid isn't part of the program because she attends another school, but TCR has events for kids such as Halloween night and July 4th celebrations where it's catered appropriately for kids. Let me remind you, this is a kids event. Some of the adults dress up like they are going out to a Manhattan lounge. I have gone to the Halloween party every year and my kids absolutely loves it. What I love the most is that it's from 6 pm - 8 pm so enough time for them to get out energy and go right to bed.
Gym Equipment - For a relatively small gym, they have the equipment you need to do your thing. Plenty of free weights for the heavy lifters and many cardio machines for you larger people. Cool note - it's currently underway for upgrades so management is aware and are working toward giving it a much needed lift.
The TCR cafe is pretty solid as well. Always a fan of their protein shakes.
Overall, if you live in the area, it's a solid gym worth the price...
Read moreI've really only used TCR as a tennis facility and for that I can say it's excellent! My husband and I regularly take lessons there and we both are finding our game so much improved. All the staff are friendly and professional but in particular we feel so lucky to work with Josh and Brent. I take a clinic weekly with Josh and if it weren't for his boundless energy, tough love and purposeful encouragement as well as supreme skills on the court I'm not sure I would be able to get myself there every week. But, thanks to Josh, I look forward to it so much. He makes it fun, a great workout, and a high quality investment in skill development. My husband and I also take doubles lessons with Brent regularly and there is no pro with the encyclopedic knowledge of the game that Brent has and is able to impart each time! He's been able to help us strategize our doubles technique as well as work on all the individual skills we need (even at our very disparate levels). I've recently started competing in doubles league matches and if it weren't for the instruction I've received at TCR from Josh and Brent I would be in no way ready or confident enough to do so. For high quality tennis instruction in the NYC area, TCR is an excellent value and I cannot recommend Josh and...
Read moreThe thing about TCR that has always been the case is that they are not customer-service oriented. They do seem to spend a lot of money on improvements, but the "improvements" are about appearances, not about things that improve the quality of the experience for the club members, e.g, a refurbished reception area (the old one seemed fine to me), new locks on the lockers (no problems with the old ones). But the shower towels are chintzy -- feel like they're made of rubber; you rub and rub and never get dry; the showers could be kept cleaner (walls can be slippery); showers often seem to break down. And I agree with an earlier reviewer; if you bring a problem to the attention of a staff member; the response is a defensive one; i.e., an excuse, explanation, or the old standby, "Nobody else complains about this" (not true: plenty of complaining goes on in the locker rooms). There simply doesn't seem to be an interest in in improving the quality of service for customers. Requests to put in a suggestion box (so those reluctant to complain face-to-face could express concerns) just meet with a glazed stare.
No complaints...
