My husband and I stopped at The Local for a drink and lunch. It was our first time there and had no idea what it would be like or what they served. Place was completely empty inside. A small group of people ( about 7) outside. As we sat inside for about 15 minutes looking around for someone to come over with menus. One of the group from outside came to our table seeming to be bothered that we were there. Asked us with big attitude what can she get us. My husband said is there anything going on here. He saw a little sign behind the bar that said Happy Hour. The waitress looked at him like he was from another planet and replied "what". He said we have never been here before is it happy hour can we get a menu? She literally stomped off to get us menus and o told my husband I don't want to stay cause her attitude was terrible. Then she came back 2 minutes later a said what can I get you to drink. We had just got the menus and were looking at the drinks discussing what we were having to each other then looked up to tell her and she had already started walking away. So my husband was talking into the air. Remember the place was empty inside on a Wednesday at around 3:15pm. She went to argue with a co-worker. Came back with a bigger attitude and asked what are you drinking. We could barely even say the entire name of the drink as she was walking off already. It was in that moment I told my husband I will not eat there. We'll finish our drink pay for it and leave. The drink was absolutely delicious and I'm sure the food would have been good too but I would not stay there with someone that had such a nasty attitude while serving two people that have never been there before. I guess she was mad because she was outside hanging with her crew and we interrupted her. PS I rate the drink a five. I rate the waitress/bartender a 0. And i hope that wasn't the owner, because if it was she should really go for anger management or an...
Read more*UPDATED REVIEW New owners, New name, New review. I was looking forward to visiting the Local because I used to love Pepperjacks so much but was completely disappointed. On top of the food being sub par, our server Diane’s icy demeanor made us feel as though our presence was inconveniencing her. When she finally got around to clearing our appetizer plates she didn’t speak a word to us at all, or even make eye contact. She was not friendly or personable and was barely present at our table; although she made sure to check in on all of the tables around us with a smile and even stopped to chat with several of them. The saving grace of the night was the hostess who checked on us periodically to get us things Diane couldn’t be bothered to check back to our table back for ie. salt for our under-seasoned food, lemons, refills, and napkins. We ordered French onion soup, wings, the Local burger and a “jacked up steak wrap” which was my absolute favorite thing to order at Pepper Jacks. Unfortunately The Local clearly hasn’t kept the same standard of food OR service because both were bland. We felt unwelcome by our server, and were unimpressed by the food. I do regret not asking to speak with a manager regarding Diane’s less than 2 star service, but with all of the amazing restaurants on the Island.. I decided against getting the manager involved because we will never be returning to The Local. If you’re looking for a great place to eat I recommend Bella Mama Rose, Flour & Oak, Vinum, or The Richmond
———————————————————————— OldReview vvvvv Pepperjacks staff is awesome, their food is great and so are their drinks ! I went there for brunch and loved it so much that I went back for dinner later that week. I ordered the appetizer sampler which was pretty good, the lobster mac is definitely a winner and my friend got the buffalo mac which was even better. I would absolutely recommend going there and bringing...
Read moreThe restaurant is broken down into two separate sections: the bar and the more intimate dining area. We opted to sit in the more quiet and intimate dining area, which had a nice fire place and beautiful Christmas decor to give off a warm family vibe. Our waitress, Jessica, went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful first dining experience at The LocaL, where she addressed our minor concerns and socialized with us in a welcomed and extremely friendly manner; Jessica is reflective of what exemplary service looks like and she definitely helped enhance our overall dining experience!
Now onto the food: the is by far one of the most affordable restaurants I've been to in Staten Island, where the portion and quality for the price is definitely worth it. The French onion soup and Picasso burger were both phenomenal and I can't recommend it enough! The zucchini fries were humongous for the price (as you can see in the photo) and totally filling!
A minor issue we encountered were that the price from the menu mismatched the price on our receipt, a few days were either a dollar or two less or a dollar or two more, so check your bill!
Will definitely come back to try their extensive menu for I'm sure there are still so much more deliciousness to be discovered here! Thank you again to Jessica for being so friendly and kind, hope to see you again soon!
Thank you for reading and...
