Whoever is the owner please come and check on your service people. My wife and I were looking forward to eating here for her birthday, and we were met with such disappointment. Felt bad interrupting the hosts lunch but he did his job, as for the rest of his colleagues can’t say the same. Five minute until someone came to check on us for drinks and if we were ready to order. We decided at the time to be courteous and check in the boxes on the menu with our pen to save the wait staff the trouble. The food got out at a good time no problem their food was good nothing special. But the overall waitstaff was disappointing. Only 3 tables and 3 waitresses doing their own thing. They were working they weren’t on their phones or anything, they just weren’t waiting on us at all. One was behind the bar, one was folding napkins and the other was washing dishes, you’d think one of them would at least come in every now and then and check up on us. But nope, I couldn’t even tell which one was our original waitress cause they kept changing. One waitress asked if I wanted a refill which I said yes to, but it never came. 10 minutes of waiting the waitress who took my cup away to refill it and was behind the bar, and I had to call out to someone else for a refill. I understand it’s a slow day the restaurant isn’t packed but just cause it’s a slow day for the workers shouldn’t mean it’s a slow wait for us eating the food. It’s embarrassing to have to call out to the waitress when we want something even if its something as small as a refill. We were done with our food for a while already even before someone finally crossed our paths (not come to us, but CROSSED OUR PATHS) to ask for the check. Just when I couldn’t wait to leave the waitress comes back handing me the wrong check. Which I thought was the final straw, but of course it wasn’t. After I sign for the bill she comes back saying I didn’t tip saying “of course I have to tip.” She didn’t say it in a aggressive way but friendly banter as if I was joking but I wasn’t. This waitress wasn’t even the one who took our order and she’s asking why I didn’t leave a tip?! She’s telling us, “yea because we brought your food,” like what?! That’s your argument? Doing your job is a reason to get tipped? Never checking up on us just giving us our food and sitting in the back folding napkins. I can’t understand how washing plates and folding napkins was a top priority over checking up on customers. In the end she insisted on a tip which I gave which was more than what she deserved. But this is a life lesson I now know. Never coming back here again. To the owner… please teach your wait staff what to do… and what NOT TO DO. Maybe I’m crazy but asking for a tip just seems to be the nail in the coffin of bad service. And if you have anything to say, please let it not be anything defensive as you cannot defend such...
Read moreI walked into Monster Crab, lured by their $29.95 lunch special, but stayed for more than just the deal. As a volunteer at the Women's Center, I've seen firsthand how this place has supported local causes, including contributing to the center in the past. That kind of commitment to the community makes a difference in a world where corporate handshakes often go unnoticed. So, with that in mind, I decided to check out what they were serving up--plus, they're running a $1 drink promotion, so what's not to love?
I was craving a lobster roll, and for $29.95, I thought it'd be a gamble worth taking. When I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by a clean, spacious space and a staff that could not have been more welcoming. They handed me a menu with an overwhelming list of options, but thankfully, Steve, my server, was on hand to guide me. His recommendations were spot on.
I started with clams, then moved on to the fried calamari, fried fish, and shrimp. But let's talk about the lobster roll--it came on buttery toasted bread with just the right amount of mayo and a generous heap of fresh lobster. Not heavy, not soggy--just simple, quality ingredients executed perfectly.
The snow crab leg was a standout--sweet, tender, and the right amount of meat. I couldn't resist splurging an extra $10 for the whole lobster. Steve helped me order just enough food to hit the sweet spot, not overloading my plate but making sure I left satisfied.
To top it all off, they gave me a small cup of Hershey ice cream. It's the kind of thoughtful touch that makes you feel good about where you're spending your money.
Monster Crab continues to be a place that not only serves great food but gives back to the community. I'm all about that. And with the $1 drink promo and that unbeatable lunch special, it's hard to beat.
If you're in Bayside and looking for a seafood spot that offers both good eats and good karma, this is your place. Highly...
Read moreI went to this restaurant yesterday with my partner and son. We got there about 1:20pm. We got drinks and placed our order. Which was on a sheet of paper you have to check off yourself. My son had just got out of school and was starving. The restaurant just opened at 1pm. It was empty and we were seated in the back. We notice the restaurant getting busier, notice the people around us that came in after us had appetizers and full meals. We sat starving with nothing. We spoke to the server to find out what was going on with the delay of our food. It appeared she forgot to put on our order. She said we never returned the menus but we did. The completed menus were in her apron. No big deal mistakes happen! This was about 30 minutes into our wait. Soon after we got a few appetizers cocktail shrimp, garlic bread and Mac and cheese. Another 20-30 minutes goes by. We speak to our server again. She said she would give us an extra 20 minutes to eat but it felt like she didn’t care for us. She had no urgency to serve us our food or try to get it, expedited because of the mistake. This was upsetting because normally children’s food come out first. We continued to wait then finally at 2:15pm we decided to leave. On our way out we spoke with the front desk. They didn’t apologize or try to help the situation. They just looked at us puzzled and spoke with our server in their language. The treatment and lack of empathy we received was unacceptable. For a restaurant the charges &25- to $60 person you would think they would value the customer or try to make things right but not at all. I honestly felt we were treated this way because of our ethnicity...
