I was in today and reminded the barista that I was in the previous week to witness the group that brought in outside food, and he asked them to please not do that.
He commented that they had left a bad review and complained (the one from John, below). I was stunned - who brings in outside food to a busy cafe, and then complains when they are called out on it? It is unbelievably rude.
When I arrived on that day, I had to stand at first, so it not like this is place isn’t bustling with people. By taking seats (and eating outside food), there isn’t an opportunity for another group to come in and purchase food (very good food) available in the cafe. I’m not saying what they did would be ok even if seats were widely available (it wouldn’t), but it’s amazing to me that that they would have the audacity to complain when everyone knows you can’t bring in outside food to a cafe. I could smell the deli sandwiches and I was a few tables down. The barista said they also brought in beer, which I note was not mentioned by the complainer.
As for the way it was handled, I can’t fault the barista at all. He said loudly, “hey, that’s crazy that you would do that” to the group, and I immediately thought “good on you for doing that”. The response of the group was obnoxious - eye rolls, sneers - when it should have been sheepish and apologetic.

Read moreThree Legged Cat is a welcome addition to the East Williamsburg coffee scene, bringing with it the standard cool, minimalist hipster vibe that many locals adore. However, a few quirks in its design and service might leave you scratching your head.
The atmosphere is undeniably chic, but the seating arrangement poses a peculiar problem. The seating against the wall runs along an electric line, which makes it uncomfortable for patrons to sit back and relax. A small tweak could easily solve this issue and improve the comfort level significantly.
Another oddity is the layout of the pastry case. Located at the opposite end of the expected line flow, it forces you to walk back and forth just to grab a snack. Placing it closer to the entrance would make for a more seamless experience.
The service also has its quirks. When I entered, the barista gave me a silent stare, not saying a word. For a moment, I wondered if there was a communication barrier, but then I saw him animatedly chatting with a coworker. It felt a bit off-putting and left me questioning the overall vibe of the place.
Despite its aesthetic appeal, Three Legged Cat didn’t quite meet my expectations. It’s a nice spot, but with a few adjustments, it could truly shine in this vibrant...
Read moreWent here with my fiancee and mother while visiting for concert a few days ago, on my birthday no less. The barista made us drinks so we were paying customers, and we also had a few sandwiches from the deli across the street and we were just trying to stay warm and eat before the show as we had another hour before we could go in. After 20 minutes of us not being loud or causing any commotion, our barista looks at my mother and tells her that she's crazy that we're all in there eating. Honestly it's baffling considering we were paying customers, we weren't bothering anyone, and there was nowhere stated in or around the establishment that outside food was permitted. On top of being rudely told to leave, we had to sit out in the cold for an hour. I'm honestly disappointed, I thought local coffee shops like this were supposed to make you feel invited and it put me off from ever coming here or any small...
