On Easter Sunday my friend & I were talking about bakeries for pastries, cookies, lard bread & pizzas. She wanted T&D, I reminded her about Vito's on Ave U near Ocean Ave. There's no comparison I said! I ordered 3 lg. Canolis, 3 Napoleon's, 2 Lobster Tails, 7 layer Cookies, 1 Lard bread & 2 Pizzas. I was being helped by the owners daughter, Sylvania. I was told the order came to $69+. One of the girls took my money.. I handed her a $100 bill. I took my change & was then trying to help an older man with the money for a bag! I left & went to our Easter gathering, took the change out of my pocket & saw one $10 bill & 5 singles. I couldn't believe that I was shorted by the girl that took my money. So I called immediately. The daughter Sylvania, said she would look at the camera & tape. She told me the young girl said "she counted my change in front of me three times. She never, not once counted my change! Then the story changed in that the girl said "she gave me a receipt 🧾, she never gave me a receipt 🧾!! The owners daughter; Sylvania said my order was for $60+. So now calculating, I was shorted &25.00. Sylvania insisted I was handed $40.00 as my change. Now how do I resolve this unacceptable issue. I've been a customer for approx. 12-15 yrs. My money doesn't grow on trees! Now on top of the money issue... their products have totally, horribly changed. The pastry crust was soggy & stale. There was no delicious flavor the crust wasn't flaky, the cream in the pastries was not fresh & definitely made with some by-products. The chocolate didn't even taste like real chocolate. The lard bread was dry & lost the awesome flavor that it used to have. Must be cheaper ingredients, different bakers & crunching numbers in their favor! It's really a great disappointment. I used to rave about Vito's bakery, their products & their service. I guess those days are gone. "DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT VITO'S BAKERY ON AVE. U OFF OCEAN AVE." I apologized to my friend for recommending them. I guess I should have gone to T & D Bakery also on Ave U & E. 23 St. So I'm out $25.00 & they're not going to correct...
Read moreI don't know how anyone can give this place anything but 5 stars. As an Italian born and raised in Brooklyn, I'm no stranger to good food.
First of all, there is nothing even comparable in the area let alone serving Boar's Head. The breakfast sandwiches here are off the charts. Between the roll / bread and the cooked bacon, it is SO fresh. The sandwich melts in your mouth. Absolutely delicious.
Second, every baked good I have gotten has been absolutely perfect. The cinnabons aren't overly sweet, the corn muffins taste like actual corn muffins (it seems so hard to get a decent corn muffin nowadays), the cheese Danish is creamy and flaky, the list goes on.
Third, the lunch sandwiches are just as good as the breakfast. Chicken cutlet with roasted peppers, melted fresh mozzarella, and mayo is my go-to (sometimes with a bit of balsamic). The cutlet is tender, never any chewy or fatty parts, it's thin, and nothing is salty. The hero is fresh just like the rolls, and the fresh mozzarella is always delicious.
Family owned and operated too. There isn't a place that screams Brooklyn anymore like this place within 50 miles.
They do only take cash but anyone who complains about this or makes claims about tax evasion is pretty silly. The rates for credit cards charges right now are through the roof. Instead of charging customers a fee, which they could easily do, they decided to just accept cash and I don't blame them ESPECIALLY considering their prices are unreal. A bacon, egg, and cheese plus two cinnabons, and coffee for $11? Where are you getting that price with this quality? I swear, people...
Read moreAll I can say is WOW!!! Let's start by saying that this was the first time I stopped in, everything looked delicious and smelled fantastic!! An incredible variety of yummy desserts ,mini homemade pizza's an insanely great raspberry walnut cake (they will cut you whatever size you want 😋) and as far as customer service, all I can say is ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE!! Being a first time customer, I didn't know that they only accept cash and I only had Credit cards. To my surprise, the owner said that I can come back whenever I get a chance and pay for everything that I purchased next time!! I was totally shocked and extremely appreciative as this is something that is normally unheard of! I tasted one of the items that I bought when I got into my car and it was DELICIOUS!!! I highly recommend coming to this bakery and trying a lil bit of everything 😋 To the owners and staff, God bless 🙌 You have a new customer...
