Cheng's Buffet & Grill — Restaurant in Newark

My first observation was dirty windows. Not dusty, dirty. Lots of fingerprints on doors and windows. Perhaps cleanliness is not a priority here. The dining area is okay enough, but nothing special stood out. The hostess was pleasant and returned quickly with drinks. They were not very busy here. This is a buffet only style restaurant. If I had known, I wouldn't have gone in as I am not a fan of buffets. This establishment was a reminder of why. To their credit, the buffet pans were full. The problem was that the food in them is lukewarm at best. I tried a variety of dishes and encountered the same issue with all of them. The egg roll was very unpleasant. It had a rotten cabbage taste that made my stomach turn. I actually spit it back out into my napkin. I usually love a good egg roll. This wasn't it. They have areas labeled Mongolian Grill, which is to order, and a sushi area. The grill ingredients looked like they had been there for a while, and the sushi area looked to mostly be comprised of vegetable sushi. I hate to be harsh, but I fully expect to get food poisoning from here. The food is just not being maintained at a high enough temperature to meet food safety standards. I see where others have shared that carpet and bathrooms are disgusting. Apparently, the carpeting has been replaced with laminate. We did not brave the bathrooms. We will not go back. Went here last night and dont even know where to begin. Either they changed recipies or the food was stale. Both my girl and I barely ate one plate. Then the waitress asked if we wanted more to drink. We both said no and she brought me a drink refill anyways. Went to complain to the lady up feont and she didnt care at all. Immediately she switched to asking how many sodas we had. I told her I had a soda then she yells for the waitress in mandarin and asks how many sodas we had to which the waitress says the same thing. Im not sure if there was just a language barrier when I wanted to tell her about the food but she wasnt interested in talking past me paying and leaving. Oh and it was funny when we walked up to pay since we decided the food wasnt worth staying for, the same waitress had forgotten she seated us before and we had to explain we wanted to leave. Plus while checking out they decided to get frusturated and kept shaking my debit card at my girlfriend even though she didnt hand it to them. I will NOT be returning and I suggest you do the same. Laster on into the night I ended up feeling ill and throwing up what little I had eaten. This place has gone downhill for quite some time and they dont care if you are upset. Also, clean and fix your bathrooms! The stall door should lock not lazily sit shut. Absolutely...

This place may have had a good start at some point, but it really left me feeling disgusted and angry that money gets wasted on this place.

The disrespectful ill treatment of customers is beyond comprehension.

The waitresses were very rude, whenever they were asked for anything and they expressed what a great bother and inconvenience it was to them.

I don't get it! If they don't want to work there, why don't they just not?

The food was cool, some things were actually warm at best. None of them knew how to speak english. I had an easier time speaking spanish to the Mexicans doing all the work and cooking in the back!

They are extremely careless with hygiene as well.

I had to ask for the table I was seated on to be cleaned because they didn't wipe the table after the customer prior to me left.The bathrooms are also filthy, and disgusting!

It's really a shame. The place has potential to do very well if management and staff gets proper "Customer Service Training" and they clean up the place.

Goodness! how hard can that be? I'd like to see them get these matters taken care of.

I do not recomend anyone goes there till then.
