This is an overview of the whole experience. I have visited this place twice in the past 4 months. This place is an absolute must-try. I would say that this place absolutely deserves its rave reviews - the food is authentic. Too authentic for my American palate though. Even though this was not my first and second time trying Pho I still did not like the flavors. I had Spicy Ramen and I believe a seafood Ramen, which I cannot locate on their menu right now. Both tasted like butt. The seafood one specifically, tasted like a semi-rotten, foul sock stuffed with clams and squid. I do not mean to be offensive but that is how I would describe it. Like I said, I do realize that those were authentic flavors but let this review be a suggestion to those who have already had Pho at other restaurants - this place offers a very unique selection of flavors that I attribute to a pure authenticity of the dishes, not to a bad chef or bad ingredients. I could be wrong though. My fiancé had a chicken curry dish and it was on the sweet side so he liked it but only the first time, apparently the second time it did not taste as good and it also had a distinct 'wet dog' smell and taste, both to me and to him. Now, Tempura Shumai (tempura shrimp skewer) was so good, we both agreed we could eat buckets of them. And the green tea is fantastic. The chairs are low and have no backs, so you can't lean back and there is nowhere to hang your purse so it will sit on the floor. I did not care for that because I don't think that is sanitary - I put it on my lap, on my car seat and on my table at home. The service is super fast. The waiters are not super-attentive which is fine, because this place gives me a vibe of an Asian fast food place versus a full-on restaurant. The prices are cheap. If I ever go again, I will just order 3 of the Tempura Shumai and call that my main meal which will 18 pcs of tempura shrimp at $15. Both times we went there the parking was an inconvenience. They do have a parking lot which is located in the back but it was full both times and we had to stalk the parking lot for people leaving which took us 20 minutes between circling the small lot and driving around Newark in search of street parking. The second time we did the same thing, then gave up and parked 4 blocks down, which wasn't bad - it's nice to walk through the town, but overall, I would not expect to have luck with parking in that lot if I were you unless you commit to a good 15 - 20 minute wait time. I don't like driving in the city, I hate looking for parking and parallel parking especially, so for me that was a big minus. Overall, this is a must-try but unfortunately to me it was not...
Read moreA solid ramen spot has been one of the most surprising finds in Newark. Ramen Kumamoto offers a slurp-tastic oasis for noodle enthusiasts and broth aficionados alike. With its good service and cozy dining space, this ramen shop proves that great things sometimes appear in the most unlikely of places.
Kicking off our culinary escapade, the Charshu Onigiri and Pork Bun set the stage. The onigiri, a triangle of joy stuffed with charshu, was a hands-on delight, while the pork bun was a pillowy cloud of happiness, complemented by a kick of spicy mayo that whispered sweet nothings to our taste buds.
Diving into the heart of the menu, the Miso Ramen was a bowl of soul-warming comfort. The broth, a harmonious marriage of pork and chicken, embraced the miso paste like long-lost lovers reunited. Swimming within this savory sea were wavy egg noodles, well-cooked charshu, kikurage, menma, bean sprouts, scallions, sesame seeds, and a seasoned egg that was like the sun on a cloudy day. Each spoonful was a testament to the art of ramen-making, proving that when it comes to broth, Ramen Kumamoto doesn't just play in the kiddie pool--they're diving deep.
Then there was the Mayu Ramen, a darker, moodier cousin with its natural heritage Berkshire pork bone broth, seductively swirled with mayu--a dark roasted leek with garlic oil and a depth of flavor that added a mysterious allure to each bite. The thin straight noodles were the perfect vessel for this rich, complex broth accompanied by charshu, red ginger, kikurage, menma, bean sprouts, scallions, and a seasoned egg that completed the ensemble. It was a bowl that not only satisfied hunger but sparked curiosity, each ingredient whispering secrets of flavor waiting to be discovered.
While the compact dining room of Ramen Kumamoto might suggest a limited experience, the reality couldn't be further from the truth. This ramen shop serves up bowls brimming with soul, flavor, and a touch of whimsy, making it a must-visit for anyone that finds themselves in the area for any reason at all.
In the culinary narrative of Delaware, Ramen Kumamoto stands as a chapter not to be missed. It's a place where the broth flows rich and deep, and every noodle tells a story. So, if your journey finds you craving warmth, comfort, and a little noodle nirvana, make your way to Ramen Kumamoto. It's a slurp-worthy saga you'll want to experience over...

Came here for a quick bite and left rather disappointed. While it is my first time here, my girlfriend has been here before wanted to come for another visit, looks like they are trying to cut cost and took quality with it.
Restaurant: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Food: 2/5 Parking: Free parking lot
Restaurant Restaurant itself looks very similar to most anime themed Ramen restaurants, tables and chairs are clean. Ordering from barcode scan/menu. Takeout orders are taken via a Kiosk like Wawa does, very convenient. At the time we visited, the bathroom sink water had almost no pressure (Maybe it is fixed?).
Service Fairly average, nothing to write home about. Staffs are attentive and friendly. offers just right amount customer service, nothing more and nothing less.
Food Comparing Ramen to other places we've been to, the food is definitely below average disappointing for the price. At least Takoyaki is good.
What we've also noticed is most (if not all) Ramen on the menu do not come with ANY Chicken katsu or Tonkatsu, you have to order it as separate item. That explains why Ramen came out so fast, all the items are all pre-cooked and cut, it is ran like Ramen fast food restaurant... again disappointing.
What we ordered: -Takoyaki (Good, nice flavor)
-Chicken Shoyu Ramen (Chicken was sliced like Deli meat, brooth is good. Ramen noodles are a bit under cooked, and comes out a bit too firm in the center)
-Kumamoto Danji Ramen with Chicken (While you'd be WOW at first glance, you're getting a huge bowl of Ramen for sure. The flavor is a bit lacking, Noodles are cooked the same a bit under cooked, using the same sliced up pre-cooked chicken. Mind you do not get more protein out of it, all you really seem to get more of is the broth and the noodle. It is also top with some salty tasting pickle ginger, that did not taste anything like the ginger you're supposed to get on Ramen or on any Japanese dishes)
Overall a rather disappointing experience. There are definitely better Ramen places. When we left we saw another Ramen restaurant right down the street and made us wonder if we should have gone...
