Red Bowl‎ — Restaurant in Newark

The service at Red Bowl was outright disgusting. I've had their food before and it tastes good, but I was appalled by how they treated me over the phone. I waited 40 minutes after placing my order before I called to see if there was any mix-up with my food since it has been quite a while since I ordered. When I called, they said that the food would take THREE HOURS to deliver (mind you that I am only a 10-minute walk from the restaurant). I said that that was an absurd amount of time and asked if I could just come and pick it up, to which they replied that I would have to cancel my order, wait 45 minutes in the store, and then pick up my order. When I had gone to Red Bowl in the past, I never waited more than 10 minutes to get my food, and they were asking that I wait an additional 45 on top of the 40 that I had already invested in my order. As I started to get frustrated, I said that I didn't understand why it would take that long, because I have never had to wait that long before at this establishment. I always forget about this place bit my neices and her co-workers love it and I've had her left over general tso.. and it was amazing! When I finally remembered I order general tso for myself as usual because that my #1...especially when it has that darker spicy sauce. Darker and spicier than sesame chicken that it. And when I originally tried it that's what I was so impressed with and the chicken was decently white meat. This time I did go close to closing but regardless there should never be an excuse to serve food that not only looks weird but also tastes awful!!! It was so so so super burnt that I swear some of the chicken evaporated from inside the breading.... atleast half of my pieces of chicken were rock hard chucks of fried breading, that were hollow. The ones that weren't hollow had something strange in them. I couldn't call because they were closed. And like always I forgot the next day. I read the reviews and decided to give them a try. I wanted the braised duck and when ordering the lady at the register didn't know what it was. (It was on the menu) so I thought if she doesn't know they prob don't sell much of it so it's not fresh. She then up charged me for a Arizona that was labeled 1.00 but charged me $2.00. I asked for fried rice and she charged for chicken fried rice but there was no chicken when I got home. On top of that she went to the back the whole time...I guess making the food too. The food was not good at all. I rate 2 stars because my husband said his chicken and broccoli was ok. I will never return...waste of 28.00 for 2 meals.
