Wow, this restaurant is a real find. It's right near NJIT and two other campuses in Newark, and it's clear that the owner, who also was our cook and server, is a professionally-trained chef. His New Orleans (fish) sandwich was swoon-worthy. My son had the First Ward (chicken parm) sandwich and my husband had the New York Cheese Steak. Both liked them. I had the Garden Salad, which was a side salad, and it tasted and looked much better than your typical side salad. The chef/owner had obviously put a lot of effort and thought into the taste and presentation of even the lowly salad. The gentleman was very gracious and lovely to interact with. I loved, loved that he had wrapped the fork's tines and the knive's blades with pieces of paper napkin to protect them from any possible contamination. Very clean place, by the way. The ambiance is simple, and the space has a small very cute bar in the back center of the room; and outside seating, What's original is that the entire restaurant is a...
Read moreDont judge a book by its cover! This restaurant, at first glance, had us questioning the high rating, and even more so when we walked into a completely empty restaurant. But the owner greeted us, was very friendly and helpful, and cooked our burgers himself. The burger was cooked perfectly, but I'd come back just for the fries! The seasoning was perfection.
The food was hot, fresh, cooked as ordered and delivered to our table quickly. The entire restaurant is clean (from the dining area to the bathroom). I imagine this would be a great place to hang out with friends, grab a good meal, and watch the game.
First impressions can be deceiving, but give this place a chance, and you'll find a clean and friendly environment with great food and service. A really nice place for anyone heading to the prudential center for a game or concert to grab fresh food at a reasonable price beforehand - you won't get this quality of food at an event center, and it's 5 minutes...
Read moreI have been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got the chance. I called in my order of The Vermont (no bacon) which was a fried chicken sandwich with a side of fries. The man said it would take about 20 minutes. When I arrived it wasn't what I expected. I thought it was going to be a restaurant but it was a smaller place where you just go to the window and pick up your food. The place also had a lot of construction being done, but those are the kind of places that have the best food lol.
When I walked up to the window the man said its not done yet and I went back to the car to wait. He called me when it was ready and I walked up and paid. I took a peak inside and it seemed pretty clean and well kept. The food was a little over $11. When I got home I dug in. The fries were seasoned really well and was tasty. The sandwich was thick and hefty. It was pretty good as well. All in all I had a pretty decent experience and I would try something else...
