Because of the pandemic, many small businesses are considering their next steps. When the opportunity presents itself, I try to support them any way I can. I stumbled upon Intrinsic Café in Newark, NJ, and I was so happy I did! Their front patio and open backyard space are cozy and inviting, great place to kick back and sip/eat your troubles away. They are accommodating in every aspect for this day in age: food selection, outdoor space, and service. These are fine qualities to possess in any business, even more so for a gem like this. Take some time to meet Wanny and Claude-Alix, the owner and manager respectively, of Intrinsic Cafe. They were wonderful, patient and always happy to see a friendly face. Thank you both for a wonderful first visit experience and I look forward to going back! Don’t forget to support small local businesses!

I hate when people say this bc it’s so over used...but this is literally the epitome of a “hidden gem” It’s exactly what you’re looking for. Can’t believe I’ve passed this countless times. Quaint and Quiet (until I walked in) but it’s such a vibe. if it’s for you, you immediately feel you got it right upon entry. Smell of coffee affirms the taste. The options are limitless they have a limited edition menu that is worded perfectly. The bubble tea was tasty. I like places that make you feel comfortable to ask questions if you’re wanting to extend your palate. They have a back yard and front outdoor seating area which looks cool to meet up and potentially talk more comfortably.Parking is plentiful. They also had a cool community board of events that was cool to me. Oh yea they stay open mad late too. Just go.

This is such an aesthetic café that is very chill to study or just have bubble tea dates! I love how it’s decorated and how small it is. I had a strawberry smoothie with tapioca and passion fruit slushee with mango pop. They were made so well and very quickly. They do have snacks and baked good which looked very good & fresh! The service here is always quick & the workers are always kind.

This place is amazing. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting. I come here often with my children. They all enjoy the board games while sipping on their drinks. It's a great spot for networking and connecting with other individuals in the area. A great amount of college kids come here and enjoy the outdoor seating. It's like home away from home. Also the owner is very nice and will go through amazing lengths to accommodate there guests. They have a very detailed Instagram that shows you the quirky and cute ideas they have to add to the dining experience. They are very talented. They also have another restaurant in Kearny called Curiosity by Intrinsic. I can't wait to dine here with my family who are very young and are very picky eaters. The menu is geared towards picky eaters who just need to eat better. Sounds great right?! In terms of accommodations, my son cannot eat gluten, tomatoes, or dairy. Can you believe the owner let me place an order for cake pops to accomodate my son?! I don't know about you but I couldn't ask for more. The level of detail, plus the level the eagerness to serve and accommodate every individual that comes in is amazing. They even do catering and host events like babyshowers, gender reveals...you name it! I'm just saying give this place a shot and prepare to experience a very welcoming experience. You won't regret it!

The cafe itself is really cute, has a pretty area in the back, and is usually pretty clean. I have been coming here to study pretty frequently, but won’t be anymore due to a few issues:

the coffee quality is too unreliable. the price for one shot of espresso costs more than starbucks for an overextracted and watery shot, and the lattes are often too foamy for me even when i ask otherwise.. but, the non espresso drinks are okay

almost every time ive gone, the baristas have been inconsiderate or rude in some way. ive had to ask multiple times for a mug instead of a disposable cup (to not get a mug anyways), had to wait 15+ minutes for an order because ours was forgotten, been unable to work due to shouting and yelling. most recently, i had gotten a bottomless coffee a bit prior before asking if it was okay if i could leave for a moment. Because the barista I asked said it was okay, I left and came back less than an hour later. To my surprise, not only was my bottomless coffee now void, but all I could get instead was a dollar pity discount for their mistake..

not everybody is rude, but its just become an environment im not so comfortable studying at anymore and cant recommend to friends / family...

Nice place. My drink was good despite it not being exactly what I had wanted. I ordered when they were swamped, so I attribute the issue to that. I'd asked the employee whether the Wolf's Bane drink had sugar, and was told it could be made without it. When I got it, it was super sweet, though, so I'm not sure if they just forgot that detail, or if this is just the unsweetened version. The drink itself tastes good, so I can't bring myself to necessarily give it a bad rating, and if you like sweet drinks, you'll be pleased. It tastes like a better version of a PSL. Next time I'll just try to be more clear so that I can get something I enjoy. Six bucks for a drink I wasn't happy with hurt my wallet a bit. I love the patio area, and the seating area inside is great too, with board games to entertain groups. Expect a long wait when they're very busy, and maybe ask more questions about the drinks...
