I have been looking for a good ramen place for some time around Newark and am glad to find Ramen Gami! Ramen Gami is a Japanese restaurant in the Rutgers neighborhood, serving good food with generous portion sizes at decent prices. The place is pretty cozy with about 7-8 tables, but can get crowded at lunch hours - also may involve some waits.
Recently visited them with a group of friends for lunch. The menu had a few vegetarian/vegan friendly options. The ramen is make your own style, you get to choose between three types of broth, a bunch of toppings and also the type of noodles. I had tried the veg Miso Ramen with extra toppings of Bean Curd and Mushrooms. It was very flavorful and had great umami flavor, if you like it a bit spicy you can add some hot chili sauce to the broth. For desert, I tried the Mochi ice cream - green tea and chocolate flavored. Mochi was great, an absolute must try and the $2.25 price tag is a steal deal.
A few of my friends also tried the Curry Katsu box and had liked it a lot. Its a lunch special they have added and is not on the menu. In fact my friend John asked me to add that "Chicken was delicious" in the Curry Katsu.

Read moreI have had this ramen shop bookmarked for over a year and have been so eager and dying to finally to get to try this place out.
It is overall decent for something that is close and the broth was good but honestly the pricing structure is just not okay. I am willing to spend money on delicious and phenomenal bowl of ramen that knocks my socks off but this was just good, better than ok but not great.
They nickel and dime you for everything, even for things that you would normally have complementary with your ramen from almost ALL ramen shops. The prices at this place WITH all the ingredients that I am typically used to was about $16, which is higher than most of the ramen shops in NYC.
This place is interesting that they offer different noodle types like udon but with any real add-ins tacked on to the price of just broth and noodles of $10-$11. Each add on is about .50 cents - $3 dollars, which at first you think its fine then you realize...wow that came out to be $16? How?
So, happy I tried it finally - unhappy with the price. It does not make sense for me to pay that much for just noodle and broth....I can easily go anywhere else...
Read moreMy family and I love everything about Ramen Gami! We’ve been coming here since the first day they opened. We usually eat our food too fast to take a nice picture because it’s so delicious, but I finally got one today. The miso ramen is truly the best ramen on the planet. I really have never had anything even close to this good from any other place. The noodles have the perfect snap to them. The broth is expertly simmered to perfection. The other soups on the menu are also amazing; Udon, Tonkatsu, Shoyu. And you can opt for extra noodles or even vegan spinach noodles. They are very accommodating for vegans and vegetarians as well as those with nut-allergies. Since it was Wednesday, I ordered their incredible Curry Katsu Tofu to go as well. We also got vegetable dumplings, edamame and an avocado roll, all amazing. Seriously, every single thing on the menu is incredible. This place is the best spot for a comforting, delicious meal made by wonderful owners and their staff. You can tell how much they care for what they do because the food is always consistently delicious and served with a smile. Please do yourself a favor and try...
