Newport Lobster Shack- Live Market — Restaurant in Newport

We came two times and spent around 300 in total within two days. We were going to take the lobster to go at first. But later we decided to have a bite because of the great view here. We asked the staff and were told okay to not pay the dining fee since we did not take any tools, sauces, nothing. The owner came over because we brought two burgers from another place and called us “rude,” “using this place like a picnic area.” We were told that they “will never let us slide away like not paying the dining fee.” Very mean and rude words. Even other customers sitting on the table found it unacceptable. There were no signs of not allowing food from other restaurants. Never been called out loud like this in front of other customers ever in other restaurants. Great food but very very disturbing...

It's a convenient location and a pretty view with friendly service. The lobster roll, however, leaves a lot for the imagination. The 6oz version contained hefty chunks of lobster, but that was about for the positives. I prefer some flavoring, mayo, and creativity in my lobster salad. The Lobster Shack is one of my favorite summer spots when I'm in Newport! They are dockside where the fishermen unload their catch, so it is as fresh as it gets. I usually get the lobster roll or lobster dinner - both are great. Also check out the live market - you can pick up crab and lobster to take home. A couple dozen crabs and some cold beer makes for a nice summer evening...
