Salt hill Pub in Newport, NH, proudly self-proclaims on their menu that they serve the best catfish in New Hampshire—and after trying it, I have to agree! Nestled in a historic brick building, this pub offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes for a great dining experience.
The catfish was fantastic—perfectly flaky on the inside with a crispy, hand-dipped batter that added just the right crunch. The portion was huge, making it not only delicious but also a great value. The seasoning was spot-on, and you could tell it was made with care.
We also tried the wings, and they were excellent—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. Whether you’re a fan of classic buffalo or something more adventurous, they definitely hit the mark.
With its friendly service, generous portions, and a setting that highlights Newport’s history, Salt hill Pub is definitely worth a visit. If you’re a fan of Southern-style catfish or great pub fare, don’t pass this up—it’s every bit as good...
Read moreMy Experience at Salt hill has always been positive. As a resident of Newport, I am delighted have Salt Hill in town. I go to the pub once or twice a month, usually having dinner while sitting at the bar. Their specialty fish and chips is often my choice and hard to beat in my book, but the other night I tried the "Irish Poutine," which was also a great choice. My girlfriend chose an assorted smoked meat and cheese plate and was amazed at the variety and quantity of snack samples at a good price. The Pub burgers and hand cut fries are always good, And there is a nice selection of dinner entrees. Often when family comes in from out of town, we will go there as a group. The service is always efficient and friendly, with a casual and relaxed atmosphere overall. Friday and Saturday are entertainment nights, usually offering one of the better small venue bands...
Read moreSalt Hill's Newport location serves tasty bar food, good burgers (try the Jake), and has a decent selection of drinks to keep adults happy and a lower frequency of children from coming in.
The prices for food a fair ranging from 10ish dollar burgers to mid teen to 20 dollar entrees. Drinks range from a 2 dollar long neck of the big beer companies basic products to 4 bucks for a good regional brew (a good option is Switchback that is available on tap).
The pub offers an upstairs/downstairs separate dining experience. The downstairs is for a little quieter time; while the upstairs is for the full on bar experience with occasional live music.
Overall I like the place, and would give it five stars for the area/ visit it more than once a month; however I am just not a fan of modern country music, and that's about the limits of the music being played in...
