Golden Coast — Restaurant in Newton

I am not sure what any of the positive reviews are thinking when they review this place. This food is so terrible it made me write this review. People seemed really nice I’ll agree with that from the other reviews.

Nothing personal but honestly it was the worst Chinese food I can ever remember having. To start, the pictures of other peoples food should have tipped me off the soggy breaded sesame chicken it was disgusting to all three of my kids. I even tried a piece even though I don’t eat by the chicken just because I couldn’t believe how bad it was after reading the other reviews.

You could literally taste dough or corn starch in the egg rolls as well as the chicken lo mein. Even the fried rice was the grossest I’ve ever had. Honestly the Only thing that wasn’t absolutely disgusting were the steamed dumplings.

This will be literally the first time in my life that I have thrown out Chinese food leftovers after paying over $80 for a very large meal for me and the family. If you decide to still eat there after reading this review that’s on you… Ricebox on 73 isn’t perfect but it’s 100 times better than this. Me, my husband and my mother in law ate here about 3 weeks ago. About a few days after eating here my mother in law who is 77 ended up in the hospital after laying in bed at home for a week with stomach pains and diarrhea. We ended up calling the ambulance because she was not getting any better and she was very weak. She was dehydrated and was treated with antibiotics based on what they assumed was from a stomach virus. She was taken to Lake Norman Medical Center and they told us it was colitis the day she was released but the Catawba County Public Heath called today to tell her they got her cultures back and it was salmonella. Just for reference my mother in law got beef with broccoli, my husband got sesame chicken and I got mei fun with shrimp. My husband got a touch stomach ache and diarrhea but it went away after a day. A friend and I tried it today because of the great reviews on here but the reviews do not match the service or food. Man at register said “ what you want” and was rude and in a rush when there was no one else in there except me and my friend. We watched him make our food with no gloves after he had just dealt with money and not to mention it loooks grimey & dirty in there, Rice was mediocre, the egg roll was actually good, the sesame chicken was soggy and had a weird texture.
