Jinny's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Newton

Transcendent. Divine. Scrumptious.

Those were the words that floated around my grey matter as I sunk my teeth into each of the three pizzas we snagged from this gem of an establishment.

Located smack in the middle of Newton Center, with a decent amount of street and off-street parking, Jinny's Pizzeria is a fairly new establishment but quite possibly the best addition to Newton... ever?

Their Naples-style pizza is crisp, thin and yet chewy. It's wood-fired and there's a slight char. Their toppings are and specials are top-notch and include fancy ingredients like raclette cheese, and speck (an Italian dry-cured, smoked ham) - both of which are the stars of the Alpine Pizza ($18) where they mingle alongside some red onion and very thinly sliced potato. Yum!

Their Formaggi pizza ($16) is also pretty epic, and features a great mix of different cheeses, including blue cheese - something not commonly found here in the US and yet oh so classically European. It's so damn good.

Even their pepperoni pizza ($16) is great and generously topped with those delicious, greasy cups of meat heaven. You can add a side of Mike's Hot Honey on there for an extra buck and have yourself a religious experience... maybe. You can also try one of their two dippin' sauces for your pizza bones - at $2 a pop, you can either do their house-made, dill-centric ranch one or their North-end inspired cheese/chili oil based one. Both are tasty.

Their menu also offers many other things - which I have yet to explore (but will) but try not to miss their roasted Brussels sprouts appetizer ($10) - they're beautifully roasted and joined by golden raisins, pine nuts and some chili. It makes great use of their wood-oven, which is the showpiece and the center of their kitchen.

Jinny's is owned by the same peeps who also run the great Sycamore which is a few doors down from there and it's a very well oiled machine. The service is impeccable and the menu has specials and is somewhat seasonal which is a nice plus.

After waiting for over an hour to go to one of our favorite restaurants a couple doors down, my husband, a friend, and I listened to our angry stomachs and decided to give Jinny's a try. We popped in and were immediately offered three seats at the bar. From that point forward, we had a truly phenomenal eating experience. We started with the chicken meatballs, which were perfect. The texture was the right balance between springy, soft, and juicy while the rosemary added a unique and delicious twist. The house tomato sauce was so great that when I ran out of wood-fired bread/pizza dough to sop it up, the waitstaff noticed and brought more bread to continue. Not only that, but when there was no more sauce to eat and a little bread remained, they dropped off even more sauce in a bowl to itself. Needless to say, the customer service is on point! Furthermore, the two pizzas that we ordered were fantastic and the fact that they even had hot honey available to fulfill my husband's request, says a lot about the thought that has gone into planning the menu. Not only was the food and service top notch, but we enjoyed the personal attention and conversation from the co-owner as our meal wound down. All this being said, give Jinny's a try. Found this gem from the very positive reviews online, and it did not disappoint. Got the margarita and street corn pizzas. Both were fantastic; the street corn may be the best of that type I've ever had. The homemade buttermilk ranch is a must get for dipping as well. The negroni came with a small decanter for a novel experience and was also fantastic. Service was top notch - water was always full, multiple folks asked us how things were, and the check came as soon as we were ready. All around a great experience and we will definitely be back. We went on a Saturday evening, and the wait was about 15 minutes for a table of three. They took our number and texted as soon as the table was ready, which allowed us to stroll a bit while waiting, which was nice.
