Jake's Eatery Newtown — Restaurant in Newtown Township

Visiting home for the holidays and my birthday, I decided to take my 90 year old grandmother for breakfast to Jake's because I saw they had great reviews. I walked up to the host to put my name down and I must have been standing in front of him for 3 mins and he didn't even look up to greet me. . Finally he says "yeah?" And I ask, "can i put my name down?" With an attitude, he says "is everyone here?" I said yes and I asked if we can be seated furthest from the door because it was too cold for my grandmother. Before even finishing my sentence he cut me off and said "I don't know, we'll see". We end up getting seated right across from the door. I said nothing and before sitting, I saw that there was another table being cleaned off that was far enough from the door to accommodate us. So i asked the host if I could be seated there. Right away he said no, and I had to argue with him that my grandmother was 90 years old, on blood thinners, and is cold in order for him to say ok. The food was great, our server was great. And those are the only reasons the place got 2 stars from me. If not, it would have been 1 star due to the arrogant host. If the owner reads this, hire a pleasant host because he was treating everyone this way....

The food and prices are good. The service from the staff do an excellent job with their customers. I have been there several times and each waiter/waitresses have been excellent. Very friendly atmosphere. What I am disappointed in is that I wasn’t even out the door and came back in less then five minutes later due to leaving my container of my leftovers on our table. That fast it was gone. I asked one of the bus boys if he put my container to the side that I just left. He said no because when they’re busy, he just throws them in the trash. The problem is, at this time, no one was waiting to be seated and there were empty tables. So, his answer wasn’t true about being busy at that time. That wasn’t an acceptable answer, and he knew I wasn’t happy, but it didn’t bother him. The bus boy needs to show more responsibility, and show he was to blame. I take a tiny bit of responsibility for leaving it behind, but no way should it have been disposed...

We’ve been to Jake’s before and loved it. This morning, however, the food was not up to standards. We arrived shortly after 7am, perhaps around 7:20. We were seated and served quickly. My wife got pancakes, I got the bacon & cheddar omelette. The pancakes seemed to be lighter colored than usual, and they turned out to be noticeably undercooked inside, without the nicely done edges you expect from good pancakes. My home fries had zero crispiness on the outside, another characteristic you expect. They were hot, and cooked through, but they were bland and definitely not cooked on the outside. If I had to guess I’d say that the griddle wasn’t hot enough yet, perhaps they started prep too late. For whatever reason, our breakfast was not cooked well. Our server, Dara, was excellent, she was pleasant and attentive and did a good job, and we tipped her appropriately. But the kitchen was not on their A-game this morning. Overall it was a...
