This is one of those gems that is unique to our community and authentic in its approach to providing the best in its class: fresh seafood from Maine at a fair price to folks situated in the Midwest - Greater Cincinnati - with full services to maximize the return on what is generally a pretty pricey commodity. I discovered this little seafood shop while searching for fresh, Maine lobster for our annual Christmas Eve seafood feast. It had great reviews on Google so I hiked to Newtown from northern Kentucky - and it was worth every minute/mile! Just off a main drag in town, the shop is in an older home with plenty of signage to make it stand out. The fish case was filled with incredibly fresh looking fillets, a large lobster tank was loaded with live lobsta, refrigerator cases were filled with dips, soups, salads and other seafood dishes as ready-made options, and a freezer was filled with the most beautiful Alaskan king crab legs, large chunks of frozen lobster meat in ~ 1 lb. packs, frozen lobster tails, and tremendous looking shrimp - akin to prawns they were so large. The team there was extremely helpful with recommendations, custom pkgs of the seafood, and they shared details about my selections to help me understand exactly what I was getting (like lobster that is cleaned before freezing - no nasty surprises in the pack), how to decide on the right amount of seafood per person, and how to best thaw or prepare it. The team here is friendly knowledgeable, helpful, and the seafood options are incredible. I will definitely be back for much more of what Lobsta Bakes...
Read moreFirst off, I just love this place. The seafood is fresh and fabulous, and they have quite a selection. I didn't say they always have every fish selection you want, but they always seem to have a great substitute.
The help there is top notch, and their recommendations have never failed. Tell them what you're thinking about doing, such as blackened fish, and they'll steer you down the right path. They also have great prepared items such as The Drunk (marinated salmon to die for), crab dip, crab cakes, shrimp dip, whipped butter with sea salt (or fresh garlic), fish frys on Friday... need I say more?
It's not cheap, but oh so worth it. The advice alone is worth any difference in price over your local grocer. Sorry Kroger... You go once and you'll keep going. Great fresh fish is so worth driving a few extra miles to! Oh, and if you're going on a Friday to get a fish fry (yum!), be prepared to stand in line. It's...
Read moreWhen we showed up Friday night around 4:45pm there was already a line! We wanted to try the British style fish & chips currently available every Friday night, 5-7pm. Lobsta Bakes of Maine closes on Friday afternnon and then opens to serve the British style fish & chips. Huge! tasty fish, large portion of fries, best coleslaw we have ever had in Cincinnati. The tartar sauce was excellent. There was not any place to sit down and eat so we went home to eat our meal. Friday nights, LB of Maine sets up inside to cook and sell the fish and chips and to sell pre-packaged items in their refrigerator/freezer. If you want to buy fresh fish that is normally in the display case, visit LB of Maine during regular business hours (not on fish and chip Friday nights). Now I understand why there was a line for the British style...
