Main Street Cafe — Restaurant in Newtown

Party of three - waiter was nice and attentive aside from delivering our table’s appetizer to another table. They were taken off our bill (we never did get to try them nor was offered an apology). Order 1: the patty melt was dripping with grease and the burger only covered 1/2 of the rye bread and had very few onions - would not recommend. Order 2: breaded chicken sandwich which was like chewing on a rubber band … consumed only the half that resembled edible chicken - would definitely NOT recommend. Order 3: double burger was literally leaking grease and disintegrated after each bite … took only 3 bites - would absolutely NOT recommend. Each order was accompanied by an order of fries which were okay, but completely overpriced based on the quantity and quality. I was hoping for so much more for a local cafe, but was completely disappointed and will NOT return provided much better options in the immediate area. My wife and I stopped in this quaint spot for lunch, and we are glad we did! The atmosphere is cozy, with brick inner walls, stained wood, and an earthy paint scheme. They have a great menu offering with plenty of different kinds of meat to cater the most picky of eaters. (Vegans need not apply, unless you want some deep fried pickle spears or sweet potato fries!) They have an attached bar, though we didn't partake in any spirits during our visit, that seemed welcoming and well stocked.

The waitress was a little ditsy, messing up our order with an adjacent table's, and seemed to be struggling with the three tables in the establishment.

The bathrooms were clean, and even had dial antibacterial soap - for the win. Would definitely...

You would be surprised to know that there is an incredible yesteryear style diner right in the heart of newtown. Call it what you want but Main Street Cafe has it! In taste, quality, and service. I worked here in the early 2000s, my first job and the food was so good, just a simple cheeseburger and fries went a long way. I recently came back here in Nov 22' to find that not only the menu was affordable but the food was EXACTLY like I remember from 20 years.
