We threw a baby shower at the Marketplace newtown this past weekend, my friends and I have previously thrown a shower about 3 years ago at the Marketplace in Danbury and had an amazing experience which is why we returned to the group. The treatment we received from start to finish with the Newtown manager Erick couldn’t of been further than what we received prior, Erick emailed our group in total 4 times, each time taking longer to get a response than the last, we had to follow up each email several times and when asked the reasoning for the delay the answer would be he is extremely busy running 3 restaurants. Erick confirmed he would be in contact with us 72 hours prior to the event to confirm our final headcount which to none of our surprise we never heard from him. The day prior to our event I had to call the restaurant 3 times each time I asked when Erick would be in what met with an attitude and the hostess saying her manager on duty was too busy to get on the phone, I then reiterated to the hostess that I need to speak with someone as our event was less than 24 hours away and we hadn’t heard from Erick in a week, she then replied “I’m just the hostess what more do you want me to do?” at that point if it was possible to change the venue we would have, to be treated with such disrespect while we are trying to give this restaurant group our money and business is completely unacceptable, after that comment I advised the hostess I would call back in 45 minutes. Luckily Erick did end up calling me back to me having to make a fourth follow up phone call. I was met with excuses, passing off blame onto his leadership and an attitude from Erick, I had to repeat to him several times how unhappy we are with the service we are receiving and we need to do better at tomorrows event which he assured me the entire event would go smoothing and as planned. When we were able to view the space during original planning Erick explained that we would be able to walk through the main dining room to and from the front door and bathroom as the weather in April can be extremely unpredictable, when we arrived at the restaurant to our surprise there was another shower booked at the same exact time, we were then never even approached by erick or any of the staff they were all assisting the larger shower set up as we were forced to introduce ourself to our sever, Stephanie who was the only positive employee we met. We were then told we can’t go through the dining room to get to the bathroom and our guests had to use the side entrance, keep in mind it was about 35-40 degrees out this day, the servers also had to have our food brought through the outdoors which several guests complained their dish was cold (which was not surprising) a women from the other shower actually opened the dividing wall, which we were advised not to do and demanded we close the door as their party was cold. At the end of the shower I myself was walking outside to bring things to our car and there was a huge umbrella blocking the pathway our guests had been using the entire time, none of our guests mentioned it as they probably thought we were aware which we weren’t. Another member from our group closed out the final bill with erick expressing the frustration and distaste this entire event left in our mouths especially the fact that we were double booked and treated like second class citizens due to being a smaller party, he then proceed to say the Marketplace hospitality group forced him to double book the showers that day & the day prior, stating all they care about is making the most money possible as they now own 12 restaurants, we said we don’t care about anyone else’s shower or anyone else’s involvement and that he dropped the ball on his part. He gave us a 10% discount and a 75 dollar gift card that again we most likely will never use as we won’t be returning or recommend any restaurant in this group to...
Read moreI got my first Vegan chops on at the Marketplace and learned what was available for an alternative diet choice. I've been steak and potatoes diner for life so i'll just report experience was pleasing. Discovering The Newtown Marketplace even offered the IMPOSSIBLE BURGER took a bit of sleuthing but I spotted it on a menu photo taken by another helpful Google user. First off, I learned unless you're after a full vegan moment order this with the softer Brioche roll. The included Toasted Baguette is made dairy free and fell apart too easily for my taste. That kinda took away from the psudo meaty burger eating experience. What was in between the buns was a pleasing mix of ingredients that would garner a star sticker from my doctor. The plant patty was beef-like and flavorful enough to trick my senses into believing another bovine just got his wings and the dressings were a pleasing mix of fresh vegetables. Served with garlic potato's this was a pleasing alternative. I knew what I desired in this dining experience but the staff wasn’t fully apprised on what they were offering. If you’re serving farm-to-table know your crop. I'm not ready to write home yet because...
The staff accurately stated this product contained gluten but mistakenly pointed out to me this product is touted as gluten free on the internet. I hadn’t read that anywhere in anticipation of my first restaurant quality vegan meal. Wheat has gluten so accurately labeling it as VEGAN is all that was needed to be said. TMI was less than helpful IMPOSSIBLE does offer a gluten-free patty that just won awards at the CES 2019. Problem was, when asked, the chef staff couldn’t tell me if this was Vers. 1 (Gluten) or Vers. 2 (Gluten-Free). Some area restaurants are serving Vers.2 but it was bought to my attention this restaurant is changing their menu in a few week and they were not even sure if the IMPOSSIBLE was going to be available at that point. Disappointing. Overall I’ve eaten at the Marketplace at Lexington Gardens and the dining experience is always excellent. My server did give me loads of points for the next time I dine out vegan. While I am looking to expand my dietary choices it would be nice if I didn’t get the feeling the IMPOSSIBLE BURGER wasn’t being showcased like a redheaded stepchild and treated more like part of the family. It’s a formidable choice on so...
Read moreI have been here a couple of time before and whilst it hasn't been mindblowing, its been decent enough to return. Going for mothers day wasn't the best of experiences, all of which could've been easily alleviated and I hope that owners take note and use this review for feedback. We were 4 adults and asked how many piece of pork come with the cripsy pork appetizer. 3 or 4 says the waiter. Hoping that 4 of us ordering a few appetizers to share would've made sense to him, disappointment number one came when 3 pieces of pork arrived. Was it that difficult to ask the cook to serve 4, if not smaller pieces? The dismay really kicked in when the plate with the juice and sauce left over from the pork which I was using to wipe up with fries, under the nose of the waitress, was taken away from me right under my nose. I couldn't have been more clear with what I was doing. Same server returns, hovers around looking for plates to take, leans in to take the bowl that was full of fries, I tell her we weren't finished, evidently not with the bowl still containing fries, and she takes it away anyway... The final straw was the $38 NY strip, asked for medium, it comes closer to well done. By this point I was fed up of this place and saw zero point complaining to them. A beautiful and expensive piece of meat, ruined.
The menu is over complex, I am not sure what they are trying to do but it seems to be a bit clueless and all over the place. if you want simple food where you can taste the ingredients and enjoy them for what they are, this isn't the place for you. If you want experimental nonsense, go here. The menu is overwhelming due to this and narrowed down options for what I wanted to order.
They have something named 'Asian chicken lettuce wraps'. Asia is a very large continent that contains 48 countries, all with different cultures and foods, the name of this dish is pure ignorance.
This place isn't cheap, by any means. The drinks are very overpriced for what you get. I hope that the service can be improved as I do not appear to be the first person to moan about it. They get 2 stars as my previous visits have...
