I’m not generally one to write reviews, as I believe that not everything is for everyone and people are entitled to their own opinion. This is my opinion.
Let’s start with the food - 5 stars… amazing! I grew up in Texas and didn’t think that I would find (really good) tacos in CT. I’ve actually managed to find a few. While this restaurant has a slightly more “west coast/baja California” style to it (I see you fish and shrimp tacos), everything I’ve had on the menu has been amazing! I’ve tried to all - except for the shrimp tacos (darn allergies). The birria and al pastor are standouts in my opinion. Order the birria and then use the accompanying consommé for the rest of your tacos - you won’t regret it!
Incredible corn tortillas that don’t fall apart on you…. Oh - did I mention the entire restaurant is Gluten Free? Yes - even the amazing churros! I have no idea how they managed that incredible feat.
Drinks - Nico is fantastic! As are the other bartenders, but he is truly the standout here. He’s passionate about his craft and truly love what he does. I have spent time in the service industry and was a bartender for 11 years. The menu drinks are phenomenal and if you want something that is not in the menu, as long as you can tell him what is in it, he’s happy to make it for you.
Service - 5 stars! Even with the growing pains of a new restaurant, the staff is happy and welcoming. This restaurant doe not take reservations unless you have a party of 8 or more, but I’ve never had to wait long - if at all. Food had always been served hot and quickly. There was one occasion where items did not come out together but it was quickly and efficiently rectified. Service is not about speed (IMO), but is about making sure the customer experience is the best that it can be. I will state that has been my experience here. The staff listens and wants you to have the best meal possible.
Atmosphere- the only reason this got 4 stars here is because they’re new and 4.5 wasn’t an option. They’re working on it. It’s as close as possible for a new restaurant is expected to be. I typically sit at the bar and the atmosphere there is fantastic. I’ve also eaten outside (I live in CT - trying to get in as much beautiful weather as I can during the summer).
So if you’re in the Newtown, CT area and want fantastic tacos - go here now! Also - don’t forget to...
Read moreI recently had the misfortune of dining at Taco Dia, and I can confidently say it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever encountered. From start to finish, the service was not just subpar; it was downright harassing.
Upon arrival, my friends and I were excited to try the food, but our enthusiasm quickly faded as we encountered an impatient and rude staff. After being seated, we placed our orders, and everything seemed fine—until halfway through our meal. To our shock, the manager approached us with an aggressive tone, announcing that we only had 50 minutes left before we needed to vacate our table for another party. Mind you we had just placed our first drink order. This was not communicated when we were seated, leaving us feeling ambushed.
As we attempted to enjoy our meal, several different employees continued to come up to us, urging us to hurry up and finish. Instead of enjoying a relaxed dining experience, we felt like we were being rushed out the door. It was incredibly uncomfortable, and we were made to feel like we were intruding, despite having every right to linger at a table after spending just under $400 on our bill.
The constant interruptions were unbearable. Rather than being able to savor our food and enjoy each other’s company, we were pressured to eat faster and leave. This kind of treatment is completely unacceptable in any restaurant setting and absolutely ruined what could have been a lovely evening.
Before we could even ask for the check the waitress rudely placed the check right in front of me without asking if we needed anything else. They just decided we were done dining with them.
To add insult to injury, the quality of the food didn’t even begin to justify the poor service. After we finally finished, we couldn’t leave fast enough. The entire ordeal was demoralizing and definitely left a sour taste in our mouths—literally and figuratively.
In summary, I would highly discourage anyone from visiting Taco Dia if you value your dining experience. There are countless other establishments that offer great food and, more importantly, respect for their patrons. Save your time and money—this place is...
Read moreWriting my review in response to Sal’s unprofessional response to a review left by two people in my party.
Thank you for your recap of my visit; I appreciate the effort to review your camera footage and provide timestamps. However, I noticed you conveniently omitted that during our entire stay, there were multiple empty tables around us, readily available for parties. Perhaps that was difficult to see—after all, sometimes age can impede perception, especially when it comes to keeping up with the younger generation.
I also hope you observed that your hostess seated small parties at large, open tables. For example, an eight-person table was seated after us with only four guests. This might be an area for improvement with your staff, particularly since you seem to think the younger generation has so many issues.
Regarding your implication that we may have overindulged, it’s worth noting that it’s also your team’s responsibility to monitor alcohol service and ensure patrons are not over-served. Considering we consumed a total of 19 drinks split among six people—just three drinks each—it seems unlikely we were overly intoxicated. But who’s really counting, right?
We certainly weren’t expecting perfection, just a comfortable dining experience without feeling harassed every time a member of your staff approached our table. There were remarks made under their breath as we left, which was quite unappreciated given we were never informed of a time limit for our stay before being seated. It wasn’t until after we ordered our first round of drinks that we were made aware of this.
You mentioned that our party arrived in a staggered manner. If this is a concern for your establishment, it would be more appropriate to implement a policy that requires all members of a party of six to be present before seating.
Thanks but no thanks for your attention to these matters. I hope anyone reading these reviews can clearly see just how immature the management is for responding in such an...
