I walked into Bonchon thinking I was just going to have a casual dinner. Little did I know, I was about to embark on a flavor-packed journey that would forever change my relationship with Korean food. I mean, I’ve always loved fried chicken, but Bonchon’s Korean fried chicken? It’s like regular fried chicken went to study abroad in Seoul, came back, and now it’s too cool for school. First off, let’s talk about the wings. These wings are so crispy, you could probably hear them crunch from across the parking lot. I took one bite and suddenly felt like I had achieved some sort of life goal. The soy garlic sauce was so good I considered bottling it up and taking it home with me, but stealing is frowned upon, so I resisted. Then came the spicy wings. Now, I love a little heat, but these bad boys were no joke. My mouth was on fire, my face was sweating, but I couldn’t stop. It’s the kind of heat that makes you question your life choices in the best possible way. The sides? Oh, you thought Bonchon just had wings? WRONG. The fries, coleslaw, and pickled radish are like the sidekicks to a superhero meal. They don’t get all the glory, but without them, the meal just wouldn’t be complete. Special shoutout to the pickled radish for cooling my taste buds after the spicy wing apocalypse. Overall, Bonchon in Skokie is the place to go if you want your an awesome experience (their customer service is top notch!) elevated to Olympic-level greatness. Just make sure you bring some napkins for the tears of joy (and sweat) that are bound to happen. 10/10 would put myself through the spicy pain again!

Bonchon used to be our family favorite, and every time we were in the Skokie area, it became a tradition to stop by specifically for their fries and chicken strips. Even though it’s a 20-minute drive from our home, we’d always pick up our order to enjoy at home. This time, we were excited as usual, only to find out once we got home that we were given a mix of drums and wings instead of the chicken strips we ordered. I immediately called the restaurant to inform them of the mistake. The manager apologized and offered a 10% discount on our next purchase or store credit for the cost of the strips. I asked if they could deliver the correct order and take back the mix, but they said no and instead asked for a picture of the mixed chicken to process a refund. While I agreed to this, despite multiple reminders, I never received the promised refund. The most upsetting part was their suggestion to keep and try the mixed chicken. Unfortunately, when we did, it was a horrible experience. My son nearly threw up after seeing bloody, undercooked chicken, and he’s someone who can eat almost anything. I tried another piece, and it was inedible—undercooked and unpleasant. The entire order ended up in the trash. We are extremely disappointed. What was once our favorite chicken strip place is now a place we’ll avoid, and we’ve already shared this experience with friends who also used to love Bonchon. Quality and customer service like this are unacceptable.

Greetings my Foodzies, today I had a taste for fried chicken. We went to Bonchon Korean fried chicken at 5237 w Touhy Ave in Skokie. The restaurant was small but interesting, they had a street view on the wall which had an almost 3D affect. We were greeted warmly by Kevin and Siv, a couple awesome guys; friendly, personable and helpful. Basic table seating. We wanted to get a variety so we ordered some Korean street corn much like the Mexican street corn elotes only with a twist, some added chili flakes very tasty. Bulgogi fries (bulgogi meat over crispy fries with mozzarella scallions and an awesome spicy mayo) flavorful but the mayo was the highlight. We also had the Mix 2 drumsticks and 6 wings split between 2 sauces, Korean BBQ which was a little tangy and the Spicy sauce it had a hint of heat but for me could be a little spicier. The chicken is double fried (lightly breaded and fried then allowed to cool for a few minutes then fried again. This kept th chicken juicy and made the skin extra crispy. We also had the coleslaw which was crunchy and had the right amount of sauce. They did a unique thing, the plates were aluminum carry out trays so if you don’t finish your food, put a cover on it and you are good to go. I give this restaurant 5 stars because of it completeness everything from the employees to the cleanliness of the restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant. Try it out and let me know your thoughts. Ciao Ciao for now.
