China Chef — Restaurant in Niles Township

DO NOT GET TAKE OUT OR DELIVERY FROM CHINA CHEF!!!

We have been eating at China Chef for more that 10 years. One of the main reasons why we eat so often at China Chef is because it is convenient for us, as it less that 1/2 mile from my home.

We have gone to China Chef for parties of 2-4-6 or 8. We have even gone there for groups of 10 to 60.

The food at China Chef is okay as long as you do not ask for any changes at all to any of the meals, like easy sauce or well done because China Chef will tell you, that's how the food is, if you do not like the food then order something else.

Also, we get food to take out or for delivery from China Chef. The food that we get for take out or for delivery from China Chef is what's causing the problems.

Quite often some of the food that we receive is wrong, as it is not the food that we had ordered or the food is missing one or several of the items that we ordered.

When we telephone China Chef to inform them that there is something wrong with the food that we received, they pretend that they don't understand what we are talking about and or that they don't understand English or that they just don't care.

Once again, today we received the wrong food from China Chef, as we ordered Tokwa Con Hipon, which is suppose to have fried Tofu in it, but it had none.

We telephoned China Chef and spoke to to a man, Peter, who said that he was the owner. We informed Peter that the Tokwa Con Hipon that we received had no fried Tofu in it.

Peter, the China Chef owner did not apologize to us, he did not care, he had a very sarcastic attitude, Peter placed us on hold for more than 10 minutes and when Peter got back on the line, insisted that there is fried Tofu in the Tokwa Con Hipon that we received, but that we must be looking in the wrong spot because the packer told him that it's in the middle.

I told Peter that we searched the entire order of Tokwa Con Hipon and that there was no fried Tofu in it.

Peter essentially said tough to us, that he does't care if he loses us as long time good customer of China Chef and then hung up the telephone on us.

All we wanted from China Chef was for someone to care and say that they are sorry for there mistake and that China Chef will do better in the future, but instead we ended up with the China Chef owner, Peter, being rude, arrogant, demeaning and condescending to us.

Also the China Chef owner, Peter, hung up the telephone on us.

This is by far the rudest customer experience I have ever had. They are half an hour away from me, meaning it takes an hour to get there and back. I got home and found that my order was wrong - 2 orange chickens were missing. When I called in to tell them that I was coming back for the missing items, the gentleman asked me seven times what I needed and then hung up on me. I called back and received the person who had taken my order. He proceeded to argue with me about what I had ordered and tell me that I never ordered two orange chickens.. He said that he would give me my missing items, and as I was in the middle of reminding him what those missing items were he hung up on me. I called back to make sure I wasn’t gonna spend another hour going to get things that weren’t even what I was coming to get And received the same gentleman who proceeded to scream at me and tell me I was being very rude again. I will absolutely never give these people my money ever again. My kids and I purposely did not eat so that we would have an appetite for this food, and I have spent two hours getting it and been screamed at for some thing I paid for. Even if I was rude, of course, I’m upset – they wasted my time, my energy, and I’m hangry! Update: when I arrived to pick up my missing team’s they had read this review. The gentleman I had spoke. With was so upset about it, he said just leave or he will call the police. I said they need to refund me my money, the. - which they said they would. However, when I asked for a refund receipt, they would not produce it - they said I should just dispute the charge with my bank. The meathead threatened to call police several more times and was screaming saying, “What is wrong with you people. Where do you even come from?!” I told him maybe he should call police at which point he didn’t know what to say....

China Chef was highly recommended to me by a coworker for a Father’s Day dinner. I give it two stars because the food was ready upon pickup and the order was correct. I will not order fr China Chef again.

I ordered their House Speciality, the spicy Mangolian Beef. I have no idea why they consider it their House Speciality. Perhaps its a way to justify charging almost double what the other dishes are? When I ordered it on line, I chose the option for extra spicy. I also ordered their Shrimp & Scallop in Hot Garlic Sauce" and opted for extra spicy. Neither dish was spicy, not even a hint of spicy. Both were as mild as mild can be and perfectly bland. There was not a HINT of garlic in the 'hot" garlic sauce. Nothing. Not even any flavor. I picked up my order. When I got it home, the food was cold to room temperature. I'm not sure how long it had been sitting before I picked it up but when I picked it up, the order was NOT under a heat lamp. This restaurant has been open since 1977 so maybe there was a new cook or he was having a bad night but there are too many other Asian restaurants that are far, far superior (and actually serve SPICY Mangolian Beef.) Sorry for the bad review, but I rarely get to treat myself to Chinese and I used Father's Day as a reason to order. Big...
