We are visiting Nashville for the first time. We set out to find the best Q in town. Martin's is close to where we are staying, so it was an obvious first stop. We went on a Tuesday evening... close to 8 pm, so that may have had something to do with my experience. I'm a Texas boy living in Montana. I know good bbq but haven't had it in a while... good bbq is a bit of a unicorn in the Big Sky country.
Ribs- good flavor but not terribly meaty and slightly dry. They coat the ribs with dry rub after being smoked, or so it seemed. The biggest letdown was the smallishness of the ribs. The sweet Q sauce was very good and paired well with the ribs.
Pulled pork - more of a rough pull... larger pieces than the typical minced or shredded pork you might normally get elsewhere. This was a very good thing. Good flavor but slightly under seasoned. The delicious sweet Q sauce dressed it up nicely.
To me, sides are just filler. But I'm a big boy, and the meat is where the joy is, but I will say the Mac and cheese was fantastic. The real winner of the night was the Hush Puppies. These were the most amazing balls of southern goodness. I'm no hush puppy connoisseur, but I suspect these could win awards, stop wars, and possibly cure cancer.
As a barbecue guy, I know the later in the evening you go to a restaurant, especially on a day with less foot traffic, you get what's left. It's just the way bbq go. So I will make the assumption that if I had gone earlier in the day, my review would have read differently. If I'm in Nashville again, I will try Martin's for lunch... and I will get a couple orders of...
Read moreEvery single time I go here I wait for at least 15-20 mins in the drive thru before I’m even able to give the clerk my order. You made my fiancé and I wait over 20 mins tonight while we sat there patiently waiting only to be told that the only thing we wanted was not available. You over charge when we choose to order thru the website so to save money we chose to drive over and order to try and save the extra $5-$6 you would’ve over charged me just for choose to order online. You wasted mine and her time by making us and the 10 other cars that piled in behind us by making us wait for over 20 mins only to be told you were out of burgers at 630pm. It is your dinner rush and your telling me you’re out of a simple thing like burger patty’s. This was not 8pm or even at closing so to not have a simple food is ridiculous. Your establishment is obviously ran by people who do not know how to run a restaurant or a business for that matter as I would never have forced someone to wait as long as you did. If you had simply asked me what I wanted (knowing full well ya’ll we’re out of a bunch of stuff) when I pulled up instead of wasting and waiting 20 mins then maybe I wouldn’t have spent my time telling you how terrible of business you are. In closing treat people better and make more food cause your food is not that good to wait in line for 20-30...
Read moreThis was our second trip in a couple of years. We were looking forward to this opportunity since t we were in the local area on a day trip. This was our real first outing since the pandemic. We ordered the combo "The Little Brother". Pulled pork, Briscuit with Hush Puppies and Baked Beans and a few slices of white bread. The flavors were top notch. The BBQ Sauces, seemed vinegar, based were tangy and delicious. We ordered tea to drink. We got there about 1300hrs and unfortunately they were out of ribs and pecan pie. The atmosphere was very relaxed and casual. The new place is much roomier and open. Looks like it will definitely be a place to go as the summer progresses. They had had music playing in the back ground, not too loud; able to recognize the songs, but never intruded on the conversation. The only issue was that the briscuit was cool, as was the pulled pork. Not really warm either. Seemed they were served at room temp. Although not that distracting, it did drop the flavors down a bit. And yes I supposed we could have asked that the meats be "nuked," all in all still an ok lunch. Would I recommend? Absolutely, but just beware, they can and do run out of food. And make sure the meats are "hot"...
