So, I've been to every Sushi King in the area including Richmond. This is one I will never return to nor ever recommend.

Made our first visit tonight to this location with my roommate and his two young boys celebrating one of his last nights before deployment. They wanted pizza, I recommended sushi king since they've been very accommodating to my diet.

So, I will say I had to alter what I ordered since I've been on a paleo diet for the past 17 days. All I asked was no rice/no crunchies in the spicy tuna hand roll. Amy Chin, their manager, came to our table after I ordered, already flustered, saying they'd have to charge me more if they omit the rice. I calmly responded that logic makes no sense since I'm trying not to waste considering I'd just brush the rice out. I didn't want more tuna or anything else, just no rice - there should be no problem here, it's a made to order roll at an all you can eat place, right? She insisted I needed the rice or there's an upcharge (ya know, for not using more ingredients in the roll) so I just agreed to continue our night with the boys. This woman then ensured they mixed the key ingredients I asked to omit into the tuna so I wouldn't be able to. I've had the hand rolls before, as is, and it never had as much rice and panko as the ones they put in front of me tonight. Absolutely rude, vindictive, and ridiculous. I couldn't even eat them they were so full of rice and crunchies in the tuna. Apparently she often receives complaints from other patrons for her attitude and if she's in charge here then I highly recommend taking your money elsewhere. We go out at least 3-4 times a week and never had such a problem with asking to omit a couple ingredients. Definitely never gotten so much attitude from management anywhere I've ever been.

Princess, our server, was incredibly apologetic for Amy and was very kind - someone please give her a better job out of this...

DO NOT EAT HERE!!!

Walked in and should have walked right back out. But I didn’t. So here’s the story.

Walked in was somewhat greeted by two employees at the front desk, front area looked clean and nice, as we started to the back I got that feeling that this wasn’t going to go well, for starters the place was empty which is never a good sign, next I looked up at the ceiling there were burnt out lights in basically every light fixture which is sign number 2 I should have walked out but I didn’t. Looking around the place I noticed that the tables and floors were dirty I proceeded to my table and sat down. The host said our waiter is over there, the waiter was taking a nap on one of the booths! The host woke her up and she went over to our table and asked what we wanted to drink. We both ordered Diet Coke which was the best part of the meal in my opinion. She went and brought us our drinks and then asked what we were having, we didn’t have menus or a QR code to scan so we asked to see a menu and she rolled her eyes and got us a menu, the entire time we were there it was like we were annoying her every time we ordered something. We ordered 5 rolls on the first round and we should have stopped at the first piece. All the rolls were warm to the touch and the fish looked questionable. I ordered one more roll which was a mistake my last roll pictured below smelt and tasted fishy not to mention the wasabi was not the normal light green but dark green brown pictured below. The waitresses didn’t care at all so we paid and left.

Moral of the story if it feels sketchy it probably is and I probably should have left the second I walked in.

DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!

I will update if I get...

Overall I give Sushi King on little creek 4 āļø. We used to go to the Sushi King in downtown Norfolk (pre Covid) and enjoyed it but changes were made and haven’t gone go back. We went to Sushi King on Little Creek maybe 2x around 2016? Or 2017? Whenever they first opened and it was not good at all. Like BAD. Since under new management it has greatly improved. The amount of options for the price is incredible (5 stars for bang for your buck). I had 2 sushi rolls, plus some other pieces of sushi with appetizers. One of the rolls (orchard roll) had a wasabi cream sauce that tasted too sweet. The rolls do have a good rice to fish ratio. Most all you can eat places have too much rice in the roll. (I forgot to take photos on the food). What you get for the price is just amazing. The sushi doesn’t taste super duper fresh, more along the lines of grocery store sushi. The other members of my party had hibachi streak, chicken katsu, miso soup and some sushi rolls. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We were a party of 6 and where we sat was a bit tight with other parties in the booths going to the salad bar and ice cream and a robot moving around, made it all a bit uncomfortable. Overall it was a pleasant experience and we enjoyed it. Edit: and we’re back. Two days later. My boys really enjoyed it and wanted to come back. I had hibachi shrimp, and dynamite roll and it was delicious. Our server, Aiza was fantastic!!

UPDATE: There has been changes but I'm not sure it's by much, tested out the fryer for shellfish cross contamination & I still had a reaction, luckily very mild. Tried the "yakisoba" & it tasted like plane spaghetti noodles with a lot of black pepper, nothing else. Another unpleasant experience & waste of $56 just to taste test a spring roll & their so called yakisoba. I don't think I will be wasting anymore money there. Good luck to the rest of you. Those with food allergies: Shellfish cross contamination is a problem here, so you're definitely going at your own risk! Iodized salt is also used rather than sea salt, therefore options are extremely limited. They only have 1 wok, so I was told, as well as 1 frier, which I personally find odd for the size of the establishment & considering they are a combined company with Domoishi next door. This can be life threatening, especially for those with medical conditions that don't allow for EpiPen use or simply don't have one. I have brought this up twice now with management, first time was apologetic, second time I was given attitude! I do enjoy what I can eat but the fact they don't avoid cross contamination is a much bigger problem than they seem to understand or care about. I highly doubt I will be returning if these conditions don't change.
