Shipley Do-Nuts — Restaurant in Norman

Overall very dissapointing.

Me and my wife went in hearing great things. It was busy and there was a line which seemed like a good sign. When we got up to the counter we started ordering. We ordered two French vanilla iced coffees, a sausage and cheese kolache, and various donuts. There weren't some donuts up front that we asked about, and our cashier went in the back to check, which was nice. However, after we heard the total and paid, we took a closer look at the receipt because the total seemed a little high for what we ordered. Without asking, the cashier upsized our coffees to larges and the sausage and cheese kolache to the more expensive big-earl sausage and cheese kolache. We then asked about the kolache and she (the cashier) said it was a better product. So either a manager is telling them to upsize products without asking the customers, or the cashier thought she knew better then a paying customer and just decided to change our order and give us what she thought was best. We were also very unimpressed with the donuts. All the fillings (raspberry, lemon, and Bavarian cream) tasted like a generic bought from a store filling. Not in any way unique or homemade. The rest of the donuts (cinamon sugar and glazed) just seemed bland and generic. Also the French vanilla iced coffees were sickly sweet.

This morning i was in an accident on main street because of a car pulling out of a neighborhood without stopping at the stop sign and in panick i ended up swerving to hit a curb instead of hitting another car. i pulled over into the shipleys parking lot unsure of what to do and went in asking if someone could help me change my now busted wheel. The sweetest man came out ready to help with a smile on his face which is rare to see that early in a busy city. He changed my tire as well as taught me how to do it for the future and made me laugh and smile despite the unfortunate situation. He said a phrase that made me happy “we do more than donuts here at shipleys” i’ve only had the food a couple times and its always a recommendation from me but just the small act of kindness from a donut making stranger has made that recommendation a demand haha. i will forever be thankful...

For those “pumpkin spice everything” folks….If you haven’t tried them, would highly recommend since they are in-season. Also, thank you for accommodating our special cappuccino blend on a daily basis (1/2 French Vanilla with 1/2 Light Roast Coffee). This signature customized brew has helped our family make it through the October 2020 Ice Storm, the February 2021 Freeze Out and the April 2021 Hail Storm. A warm cup of deliciousness that we can’t seem to do without.
