I miss my old NG crew! I miss the customers, most of you ; ) I do not miss working for this awful company. The whole remodel was just a cover-up for the black mold many of us suffered from. During the remodel, the construction workers (who were scheduled to work overnight) were allowed to set up/prepare BUT were required to wait on drilling, painting, etc, etc, etc until everyone including employees left the building...which was usually 930. Well, that did not happen. While customers and employees were in the building, they drilled, they painted, they covered up merchandise that customers could not access, and the list goes on and on. I could not bear the smell/the noise. I was pregnant through the whole remodel. Employees transferred or took leave (without pay) for 2 weeks, and the whole project took months to finish. My baby was born with limb deformities, and I can't even fathom how in the world this happened, other than the dangers of what I was exposed to during this remodel. I cannot imagine what it would've been like if I had came back to work for this company from maternity leave as i was offered to pump in a closet after i came back from leave with my other child. Employees suggested a private room for nursing moms to pump while at work, somewhere private, employees could go rest during breaks since they got rid of our big open room with curtain. But they told us that there wasn't any room, and everything was already mapped for specific purposes. EVen the benefits were lacking, such as 1 week pay maternity leave, $50 in baby bucks. On top of that, we were always understaffed and overworked. It was almost impossible to use pto even while working 6 days a week.
I'm so proud of crew for winning the union. It was a difficulty & lengthy process. At times, I was so discouraged. You really pulled through. What an amazing and...
Read moreNatural Grocers, though more expensive than stores like Walmart and Sprouts, which are both nearby, has been one of my go-to grocery stores ever since they established in Norman. I like the products, but more important I like the community feel of the store and the staff. The Natural Grocers staff has felt like an extension of my friend community here in Norman. They take the time to not just help with product; they also ask about my family, my garden, and generally about my wellbeing. With all of this in mind, I have been excited for Natural Grocers to grow so that workers can feel more stable in their careers, whether that be more pay to match inflation, benefit additions/changes that support their wellbeing, or a number of other benefits that CAN come along with the financial growth of a company. Natural Grocers is now a publicly traded corporation with over 160 stores nationwide and with a profit of 326.5 million dollars based on reports from 2023. Yet, they are doing a disservice to their employees by not allowing them to unionize in order to survive and thrive in an ever-growing corporation, going so far as to fire loyal staff if they are involved in unionization efforts. If Natural Grocers is truly committed to the company’s founding principle of "Commitments to Crew and Community" then they would support, rather than hinder and punish, Natural Grocers staff members unionizing. A company that benefits from the public believing they are ethical should have an accountability system to protect their workers. They will absolutely lose my business and that of my family and friends if they choose to proceed in the manner they have demonstrated thus far. Protect your workers Natural Grocers. You have an opportunity to do...
Read moreI will not be shopping here anymore. It’s difficult to shop around OKC on a vegan diet and even though Natural Grocers is expensive, I was willing to pay more, until today.
The Norman location was advertising a 25% off sale and I drove down out of my way from OKC to stock up on groceries. The NW OKC store is also out of the way for me, so I usually go to Norman once a month to stock up.
I’ve been an {N}Power member for many years and downloaded the app when it first came out. I was told that the 25% coupon was in the app, but it wasn’t showing up in mine, even though Norman is my preferred store. Despite deleting and reinstalling the app multiple times and changing preferred stores back and forth, it didn’t work. The employees didn’t know what to say, except that other people had the problem too. So, why isn’t there a way to apply 25% off at the register, at least for the advertised event? One worker told me to call customer service and that I might get a gift card. I’m sorry, a gift card for a future purchase (that may take weeks to come) is not 25% off my purchase today. That is false advertising.
Instead of stocking up on a cart full of groceries, I cut my losses and only got a few items, so my long drive wasn’t a complete waste. I do appreciate the cashier who gave me $5 off, but that wasn’t close to 25% off and didn’t make up for the fact that I need groceries right now. Times are tough with inflation and the price of everything continues to climb.
I will no longer be shopping at this Natural Grocers location and I’ll probably stick to Whole Foods for a bigger selection and better...
