We came into town to see the fall colors and found Jack's on Yelp. Decided to swing by after checking it out there and on trip advisor.
The place is totally a hole in the wall (and the bathroom for sure is!) but you go here to get some great tasting, cheap food prepared by hard working, hustling humans.
The prices couldn't be beat - $2.60 for chili cheese fries? A pulled pork sandwhich for $3.00? A double double cheeseburger for $3.50? Me, the wife, our 6 year old and our 10 month old all feasted for $25. We got the meal to go ($25 for all of the above plus a hotdog, hamburger, fries, popcorn chicken, and onion rings and mac n cheese) since there was no indoor seating and a limited amount of outdoor seating and took it to nearby (1.5 miles away) Historic Valley Park where there was a lake view and plenty of picnic tables plus a playground for the kid.
Almost everything was great. Chili cheese fries were delicious and quickly consumed, onion rings were crispy and perfectly cooked, pulled pork didn't skimp on the pork and came topped with an onion ring. The double double cheeseburger was like In-N-Out but better. Everything else was good - only downsides (minor) were the plain fries had been in the frier a little too long and were dark, and the hot dog was tiny. Fries were excusable as they were slammed the entire time I was there with multiple walk ins, delivery orders and take out orders. I was prepared to the small dog (and you should be also, order two or more).
Definitely give them a shot if you're passing through (if you're a local, it's already probably part of your routine!) - your stomach and your wallet...
Read moreCan’t beat the value of this burger/dog dive, highest price item is under $5 which is the double double cheeseburger, the name of their burgers would be my only complaint of this place which is a good thing ,that name might fool ya the first time you order it along with the double cheeseburger. I ordered the double double cheeseburger expecting a quad cheeseburger thinking the name was literal and it was two double cheeseburgers put together as one sandwich but their double double cheeseburger is actually just a double cheeseburger. If it wasn’t for the price and taste of the food I would have been disappointed. The next time I went in and asked what is the difference between the double double and the double cheeseburger and their explanation made me laugh because it goes against logic so the double double cheeseburger is not a quad cheeseburger it’s a double cheeseburger and the double cheeseburger is a single cheeseburger and their single cheeseburger is a slider. So beyond the illogical burger names it’s all pretty good their burger patties are freshly hand slapped daily and taste better than most fast food places, dogs are good but a little on the small side but from what I’ve seen that’s normal around New England the cheese they put on em if you order it is pretty...
Read moreThe hot dogs are tiny and cheap, and there’s nothing fancy about the food, but there’s a reason they’ve been in business since 1917. Lots of different toppings and fried sides, and burgers.
Classic diner counter in a tiny restaurant tucked in the end of a flatiron building in downtown North Adams, this place effortlessly drips with the kind of atmosphere that some retro-minded restaurateurs fruitlessly labor at. Simply, it’s fast food from before the days when fast food became a thing. Nothing fancy, but eminently satisfying, as long as you remember to order at least two hot dogs for a normal adult appetite.
They used to host a hot dog eating contest that was a sight to see, not sure if they do that anymore.
Bring cash, because they don’t take cards. Though they do have an ATM machine in the back that’s one of those sketchy ones that looks like it’s in a casino and will steal your identity, but it works just fine and...
