I am so utterly disappointed in the behavior of the Nara Sushi employees. I am a Dasher and every time I enter there I am scolded, glared at, and made to feel uncomfortable for every order I wait for. They are very anti-theft and I understand that, but I am going to explain my two experiences with two of their workers. I think they may even be the owners. First, the older woman who is usually okay I’ve tried to say hello before, she calls me over almost like a teacher would to a student and pointed to the ground for me to stand near her, and she proceeded to wait with me for the order. The entire time. Not friendly, not speaking, only concerned that I was under surveillance.
Then what really made me write the review is a chef from the back tonight. He’s staring at me with a distasteful look from the moment I step into the restaurant with his hands on his hips, I say hello, that I’m doordash and I’m picking up for someone (I used their name but I’m being polite) and I turned my phone to show him. He just continues to glare at me until I walk and open the door and he goes “yours?” In an aggressive tone. I was in shock so I just said “Nice..yeah.” And left. If my wonderful customers didn’t tip me so well, I would never step foot into that place. But I will definitely be spreading the word of the...
Read moreAbsolutely the freshest ingredients, prepared beautifully at a very fair price. Miso soup was what one might expect (nothing unique) but flavorful and decent volume. Tempura with the egg dish (2 large pieces shrimp and 2 large vegetables for lunch size) had zero greasiness or uncooked batter; it was perfectly cooked. Egg pancake with peas, green beans, scallion carrot, and onion sat on top of rice with tasty mild sauce. Bimimbop (might not be spelling this correctly) was a stunning looking dish. Tuna roll was fairly priced with very fresh chunks of tuna. Wasabi was on the hot side of what I've had elsewhere; but it was still edible. I think other places may have been dumbing down their wasabi. Companion and I both took home leftovers. Only a few patrons there around 2 pm for lunch.
Atmosphere given five stars because there was nothing to detract, and it is in a college town area, so for that, it's perfect. Clean spacious restrooms. The furnishings are not fancy, no fancy lighting or notable music. It has a very casual feel, not the feel of a "fancy" restaurant; but the food absolutely puts it in a higher category. Don't let the plain building style fool you. Felt like a hidden gem to me, a visitor to N. Adams; although I love been told the locals don't find it...
Read moreNara Sushi came highly reccommended by my friend who has a deep love for asian cuisine but was overall underwhelmed by the offerings in the Berkshires. Nara doesn't make claims to be any kind of high end sushi restaurant, but their food is fresh, tasty and the kind where you feel satisfied for money well spent on a sushi dinner.
They had really tasty panko covered giant stuffed jalapenos that had a great crunch and was filling.
My girlfriend raved about their savory bulgogi ramen and it just hit the spot for having a great balance of bulgogi beef and ramen soup.
The monster roll we ordered was a little large and too big to fit in my mouth for my tastes but I imagine someone would have enjoyed the novelty of the presentation of a monsterously large sushi roll.
The owner Sunny was extremely friendly with all the customers and I'm sure is a big part of why people love to come back.
The only downside is that the layout of the space doesn't escape its converted bar atmosphere and doesn't seem to match the food that's leagues better than just your run of the mill local asian restaurant that serves sushi.
I will definitely continue to keep ordering take out from Nara so long as the quality of food...
