Lassoni — Restaurant in North Arlington

I’ve been here a few times. Usually it’s awesome, the food is great but today was a different story. The atmosphere seemed different. All the wait staff with the exception of a couple people are different. All of our food was great, with the exception of mine. I ordered the 20oz -T bone steak for $40. I ordered medium, and it came out on the well side of medium but still medium. My first impressions on the appearance of the steak was pale, thin, and sad, with single way char mark on both sides. My first taste, all I could taste was the grill. No salt, no pepper, no garlic, no butter, no nothin. Just plain steak and char. So I called for my waiter. I explained this is unseasoned steak unbefitting a $40 price tag, and I would like it taken back. I did not want it. He asked if I wanted it cooked more, what was wrong, it ms perfectly medium like I asked. So after explaining this steak is not a $40 steak several times and him being difficult about it, he takes the steak back to the kitchen, only to return a few moments later. Telling me the chief would like to know what the problem is with the steak. Getting frustrated I said it’s gray, all I taste is steak and char. Let me ask you something sir, I said. Did he season this steak? Butter ? Him- no garlic - no, salt pepper tyme? -him - no sir nothing like that., so I told him well that’s the fxxking problem than., so for the rest of the night, we got stared at by the entire wait staff. Than got charged a 18% automatic tip ( they have never done that before) no big deal we planned on tipping 20% regardless . So for trying to sneak it by us we left them the 18 they automatically did. I got the feeling we where unwelcome and when I spoke to the manager about the steak, not mad or anything about it just wanted to let him know about my experience. He was very rude. Told me they never had a problem before and that the chief said he seasoned it normally. This is all my fault in his opinion clearly. So I’m frustrated again and tell him the steak was gray. It wasn’t browned at all and tasted of plain steak, grill, and char. All he had to say is this is normal; and the chief knows. They never had a complaint before.. Honestly it was very frustrating for me so I wished him a happy new year and left. On conclusion, so not buy the steak, but as far as I’ve tried everything else is amazing. Recently visited on a weekday for a repast gathering, first time. Great location on the main street, just down the way from Holy Cross Cemetery. Great restaurant for moderately large groups, intimate gatherings, and dates with a full bar up front - versatile. Affordable, too. I imagine they have open seating on a regular day. There was an event happening next door. Though separated by a heavy retractable partition, I must say the sound barrier was excellent. That or maybe both events were enjoying themselves to the point where noise was not of a concern. Either way, great feature that they can utilize the restaurant for large gatherings and intimate seating simultaneously. Nice atmosphere, clean, with an old-school italian decor/feel. We were warmly greeted upon entry and had attentive and personable service.

Our tables sat about 11. Hats off to the bartender. The menu consisted of Italian family style appetizers, offering a choice of 4 entrées - Chicken Parm, Chicken Francesca, some kind of tasty Pork Chop I heard, and a Fish dish I can't recall. One person had that pork chop, which looked like a whole steak 😳; white meat, though, and it was nice and juicy 😂. The food was good, lots of tomato based everything, as it's Italian. The restaurant was packed when we got there, even though it was a middle of the week... but since we had a reservation, we had a a table waiting for us and there was no wait (that just tells you how great of a place it is). The food was absolutely amazing, everything they served was fresh, you can tell! The staff was great! Even though it took some time for us to get our orders, we knew the 4 servers who were working at the time were doing everything they could to be attentive to their guests. I don't even know how they managed to be at every table and kept everyone happy. They work really hard! So, after a great meal and great company you get a bill and you have to take a second look, because with everything being overprices these days, you realize that this is one of the places that doesn't take advantage of you and still gives you more. The price you pay is so reasonable, you won't believe it. I have been here numerous times and they never disappoint. There was eight of us at our party and we all loved the whole experience.
