Went to eat here with my best friend based on a local reccomendation. Parking was perfect and easily found a spot right next to building. The inside atmosphere was beachy and featured a statue of Merman "Neptune".
We arrived before dinner hour. The server was prompt in greeting us at the table. However when she brought our refreshments to the table, things went downhill from there.
After letting her know that both of us were vision impaired and forgot to bring our reading glasses she came off as bothered or unattentive when we asked 2 simple questions.
I asked what sides were available with dinner. She stated "there are over 15 sides on the menu it's too much to recite" and directed us back to the menu. After which I asked her if there were any daily specials. Instead of reciting at least the dinner specials, she instead directed us to a mini menu plaquard that neither of us could read well at all.
I chose a dish that reportedly had shrimp, scallops and crab over biscuits with a creamy bacon sauce. And my friend ordered a crab cake sandwich.
The meal was disappointing. The meal presentation was close to gross. A sloppy, discolored, obviously microwaved not sauteed sauce lumped onto a plate. It did not look appetizing at all. I found a couple pieces of cut up shrimp in the dish yet overall the sauce was NOT FRESH, very salty and way too much bacon. The sauce itself was definetly left over sauce from at least 1 or 2 days before.
For $25 I was also left wondering where was the seafood at in my entree. After the meal I politely stated to the server that I really did not find the advertised seafood in my dish. To which she stated "oh its DICED seafood".
Huh? No where on the menu did it say diced shrimp, scallops and crabmeat so the entree menu description and meal itself was deceptive and not accurate. I most definetly would have not ordered this at all if the word DICED SEAFOOD would have been accurately printed on the menu.
Never mind after returning home my bathroom needed half a can of airfreshener! Left me feeling lucky I did not get food poisoning and confident that the DICED, MICROWAVED seafood sauce was old and not fresh by any means.
My friend ordered a crab cake sandwich at an extremely high market price. Something like $29 or $39 for a 5oz crab cake. She shared a bite with me and I honestly did not taste any texture or flavor of fresh crab.
The highlight of the meal were the waffle fries that came with my friends crab cakevsandwich. They were delicious and perfectly cooked.
I really prefer to leave only positive or neutral reviews however as a former waitress, cook and restaurant bar manager I have to be honest and state what is true and factual in relation to a dining experience.
This was our very first time visiting Chesapeake /North Beach area and while everything else abouf our out of town visit was amazingly awesome, Neptune's restaurant was the biggest and most expensive disappointment. We will not return there...
Read moreAfter some time on the beach, my sister and I went to Neptune's . It was around noon, not crowded and had a quiet atmosphere. It's a pleasant restaurant with a wrap around bar and separate dining area. The walls had lovely nautical art and a medium size aquarium tank really set the tone. We ordered the zucchini straws, peach puree and seafood lo mein. The zucchini straws were enough for three people- a mountain of fried zucchini sliced like thin fries. They were a bit salty but very good. They offer a good selection of cocktails, beer and wine. We ordered the peach puree, which could be mixed with your cocktail of choice. We ordered it with the alcohol. They didn't have the peach puree, but offered watermelon puree. Absolutely delicious! Non alcoholic, strained well, over ice, it was the perfect drink on a hot day. The seafood lo mein was a small mountain of fresh steamed mussels, scallops, broccolini and other veggies over noodles. The broth was well seasoned , the noodles were perfect. Reasonably priced at $29.99. I apologize for not remembering all of the seafood that was in this dish. It was very satisfying. On street parking, the restaurant sits on a corner. Forgot to mention a statue of Neptune in the dining room. We'd definitely return to this little gem. The servers were attentive and personable. I think they have a...
Read moreI have been trying to support as many restaurants as much as I can during this pandemic even though I cannot really afford to. So, I'll order a few meals and make it last over a few days. An acquaintance urged me to try Neptune so I did. I have never been so disappointed! I ordered $63 worth of food and tipped $12 which is not bad for delivery. I asked about the dishes in advance and feel I didn't get an accurate account. I was told I would get 7 full wings for $13; not true, it was 7 sections which was 3.5 full wings. Wow! Okay, stuff happens. I wouldn't have been so disappointed if they were not hard and over cooked.
Let's move onto the crab and corn chowder which was more like a pudding. It was salty and, yes, over cooked. The corn was chewy and there was no chowder. It was thicker than mashed potatoes!
The baked potato was hard and dry. The Cajun catfish nuggets were salty, oily, and, yes, over cooked. The smoked bluefish looked good, but did not taste a good.
I am no food expert but I know about well prepared food. I am from New England so I feel that I have experienced my fair share of great seafood and this was not it. Far from it. I'm not sure who has been writing rave reviews but they certainly dropped the ball with me. If I may make a suggestion:...
