I couldn’t decide between the chicken breast platter and the loaded griddle rice, so I asked both a friendly customer at the bar and what seemed to be the owner/chef for their recommendations. I ended up going with the loaded griddle rice topped with chicken breast—and wow, it was absolutely delicious! Every bite felt like a party in my mouth. I had a few hours to spend in the area after dropping my partner off at a funeral, and since we were three hours away from home, I searched Google Maps for the best-reviewed spot nearby. I’m so glad I found this place. Even though I couldn’t eat inside because I had my giant dog with me (and I didn’t want to leave him in the car), the staff was kind and accommodating. All around, a fantastic experience—great food, friendly atmosphere, and excellent service. I’ll definitely be back if I’m ever in the area again!

Was out for an impromptu Friday supper. Started out for the pub in Norfolk but due to a show at Infinity they were packed and we were hoping for a quiet meal. Headed to North Canaan with no destination in mind. After we crossed the tracks we saw this cozy looking little market just past Roma. After driving up the street we decided to give it a try. From the minute we opened the front door we knew we made the right decision. Matt greeted and sat us. The menu had really great choices! Once our meals arrived, it happened, we experienced “yuminess”. The food was fabulous. We shared a bread pudding for dessert and more “yuminess”. If it wasn’t closing time we could have spent more time chatting with Matt. We will be back, that you can count on.

An early Mother’s Day lunch with Mom & another great meal prepared by chef owner Mathew. The food is never a disappointment and Mathew is a truly kind human and I’m grateful there’s a place in Canaan now to get really fresh handmade dishes prepared to your liking. I had the Mushroom Sandwich and a side of grilled fermented veggies (mushrooms, cauliflower & Brussel sprouts) My Mom had the shrimp special. Side note: I think it would be great if Mathew brought in some entertainment, like a jazz or blues brunch, also maybe offer spoken word or a coffee and book atmosphere in the evening for people to gather.

Last night we were looking for a place to eat before attending a talk at the Douglas Library. Even though we grew up in this area we are now living in Torrington so it's been a while since we've eaten in Canaan. I checked on the internet for places to eat in Canaan. We were looking for something simple and this seemed to be what we were looking for. It was PERFECT. My husband had the mushroom sandwich which he said was absolutely delicious. I could tell it was by how quickly he made it disappear. I ordered the "bacon sandwich" which is another way of saying "BLT". Really, a BLT is a BLT, isn't it?. Not this one. This was the BEST BLT I've ever had. I don't know how to describe it but it just felt "soothing". Healthy. Fresh. The lemon mayonnaise added just a little bit of an extra zip to the tomato. Because it was on a soft roll and not toast all the flavors seemed to melt into one lovely juicy bite that went down so easy. I love the fact that the plate was not loaded with the obligatory chips and dill pickle. Just the delightful sandwich. We left the table totally satisfied and not feeling overfed and bloated. My husband had the bread pudding. Since bread pudding is not my thing I declined but the owner brought me a little dish of blueberries with a scrumptious sauce. Ohhh....so good. I've spent most of the day thinking about that "bacon sandwich". I need to go back for another one. Probably not the place for those "all you can eat for $12.95" people but if you're looking for fresh food that satisfies, makes you feel good and is clean this is the...

Discovered this place over the weekend and what a find it was! Went for brunch/lunch Sunday about 11:30. Matthew, the owner, greeted us as soon as we walked in the door. What a nice, welcoming guy! The place is beautifully decorated, great lighting, cozy with an eclectic vibe. Really nice. But the food - outstanding. Matthew makes everything himself, down to the bottled hot sauce on the tables, which by the way Matthew, you need to bottle and sell! SO GOOD. We shared smashed potatoes - perfectly done inside and so crispy outside - a delight! The griddle rice with mushrooms, griddle rice with veggies, bacon sandwich, chopped salad and scrambled eggs were out of this world. The salad looked fairly simple, but upon tasting it, its star shot to 5! It was so crisp, so perfectly cut and so beautifully dressed that you'd want to order another one right then. The mark of true chef is taking a few ingredients, combining them in such a way as to make you think - how in the world can so few things taste absolutely amazing together, full well knowing you will not be able to recreate it yourself at home. The dinner menu looked fantastic with really reasonable price points too. Will definitely be back to try the sea bass, among other things. Thanks Matthew! It was a treat to meet you and enjoy the wonderful restaurant you've created - best of...

We had an extraordinary experience last evening at McMuckles . Firstly, the space is large, airy, welcoming, with refurbished tables and chairs. Secondly, the food was out of this world fragrant, flavorful, fresh, clean, cooked to perfection. I have never tasted Brussel sprouts like this before cooked in a cast iron pan crispy on outside and delectably tender on the inside. The spiced shrimp entree was phenomenal tender, succulent shrimp seasoned by Matthew with a hint of spiciness, brown rice cooked to perfection, and a flavorful, fresh salad. My husband had a cheeseburger which was, in his words, the best he’s ever had. Thirdly, Matthew’s cooking skills are not the only draw here~ he comes to the table to ensure the diners are satisfied (who wouldn’t be?) and also to chat abt his fascinating background. Canaan is one lucky town to have this amazing restaurant….and we wish Matthew every success. We will most definitely be...
