I have been here several times. It's nice, clean, and modern. The food has always been enjoyable, as has the atmosphere. The prices seem to be more expensive than the original Walther's Cafe, but then again I haven't been there in quite a while. I recently attended a birthday party held in the "party room" behind the bar at the Twin Tavern. The reason for my two stars stems from three things: 1. They do not allow you to bring your own cake in; or rather, you can bring your own cake, but then they charge you an additional $25 to do so. In my opinion, if you pay to rent out a space, and the space is going to make additional money from the attenders of the party by purchasing food and drink from the establishment, you should be able to bring in your own cake free of charge. Our relative who had the party chose the cake provided and it did not taste good. 2. We had gift certificates in increments of $10 that were given to us as a gift. The management only allows you to use $10 per visit. Most other restaurants allow you to use as much of the gift card/certificate as you'd like. Instead, we ended up having to spend out of our own pocket and are forced to return four more times if we do not want the money spent on the gift certificates to go to waste. 3. If you rent out the party room, you have to order off of the special "Party Room Menu" and are not allowed to order off of the regular menu. I'm sure there is a reason for this, but I cannot think of a good enough one to institute such a ridiculous rule. We had looked at the menu online and picked out what we wanted to eat ahead of time, only to be told we could not order any of those items. The "Party Room" is really just the patio area. All of the food, whether on the patio or inside, is prepared in the same kitchen. During summer hours, do patrons who sit outside have to order from only a limited menu? All of the money is going to the same place. This really upset us. So, to summarize, we had to eat cake we did not want (or spend an extra $25 on top of the rate to rent the room out in the first place), could not use more than $10 out of our $50 worth of gift certificates, and could not order items from their normal menu if they wasn't on the limited "Party Room Menu." I am considering giving the remaining gift certificates away and...
Read moreHad 12 friends meet on our weekly Monday night dinner; not the first time our group met there. Not celebrating anything special, just our friendship. I had 8 pieces of left over Bundt cake that I gave to my friends⦠AFTER I did that I was told there was a surcharge to bring outside cake and the waitress apologized for not telling me prior to me passing it out.
The surcharge was $20!!!! What? They didnāt cut, serve, use their china⦠NOTHING and I wasnāt told until it was passed out and being eaten. Then I quietly went to the server, and said that was a ridiculous amount. She explained it was because they sold cake. I told her we have 12 guests eating/tipping and I was not told until after I distributed 8 pieces! I asked how they can charge $20 when their cakes are only $15. THEN, I was supposed to be happy when the waitress came out and said the mgr agreed to $15?! She then told me there is a sign in the door about the cakes. I checked in the way outā¦. Only sign I saw was that bakery items were available⦠NOTHING about a $20 surcharge!
Ok⦠so the icing on the cake??? There was a 20% surcharge for tipping added to all bills due to the group size. Guess what? 20% was added to the cake surcharge taking it to $18! I told the server Iād give her $15 cash to remove it from the bill so the cake surcharge didnāt get the tip surcharge too!
Totally crazy for a neighborhood pub of this caliber! We have dined at nice restaurants with desserts that didnāt surcharge at all. Additionally the customer was not informed until the cake was distributed and eatenā¦.no way to back out for me!
They lost 12 regulars tonight. Stupid mgmt policy and sorry the server had to be in the middle of it all. ...
Ā Ā Ā Read more1st and second visit made to feel so special. Third visit made to feel like a fool. 1st visit we had Sue waitress of the month. We asked about the place and took her recommendations. Spent $64 for 3 cups of bean soup three sandwiches and 3 diet cokes. I brought in my Polar Pop cup that I take everywhere. Mom tipped $20 and we left happy promising to return. Next week asked for Sue she had just left so had another great waitress. I took my Polar Pop cup that I take everywhere. We paid $56 for 4 lunch plates. $23 for 3 diet cokes and 2 pieces of pie. Mom tipped $20 we left happy. I work at circle k and today we had a special event with 1/2 off pop and food and $.30 a gallon of gas. We all had a Polar Pop cup because I stopped in to support my coworkers on the way to visit your restaurant for the 3rd week in a row. We were excited to see Sue, we were told she was about to leave and we got another waitress. I left my Mom and Aunt at the table and went to the restroom. When I came back they told me they had ordered? The waitress came and too my order and then Sue came over and told us the owner frowns upon us bringing in a Polar Pop. We ordered 4 lunches for $45. Two pieces of pie for $12. Mom tipped the waitress $15 and I was humiliated. Thank for ā¹ļø frowning on our...
