I'm realizing there are certain people who will love this store and some who won't. This store BY DESIGN is not meant for a casual, relaxed, typical shopping experience. I'll address a few of the common complaints I see.
No purses/strollers/diaper bags.- It's clearly marked in the entrance before you enter and they just ask that you leave it in the car. I don't understand why this is an issue. I think it's common sense that they want to cut down on possible theft so their employees can assist customers and not be watching everyone closely for shifty hands.
Dirty/junk/broken items- Every item, with the exception of some larger boxes against the walls are in bins. No they are not "organized" or stacked. You will be sifting through boxes and looking under things. Some items have fallen out of boxes however I find that most are in tact and in good condition. Any loose items are of fault of the shoppers, not the employees. Place items back in bins gently and don't open them. This isn't rummaging through trash, it's still brand new items in boxes. I have not once seen trash or anything feeling dirty while in the store. I do see a bin of broken items next to the testing station that employees separate out when opening boxes for shoppers before they purchase. If you're concerned about the quality of items simply take to the testing station to be opened and you can inspect them. Even if you get an item home and realize it may be flawed or missing something, at most you're out $14. It's not like it's a huge risk.
Rude employees/yelling- It's basically one large open room. Yes they will yell reminding people not to open boxes. They don't yell at people specifically but just as a general announcement. I see nothing wrong with that. In order to keep a clean store and the integrity of the items being sold, they can't have people prying open corners to peek in or opening boxes and losing pieces etc. I do find the employees can be a bit "brisk" but I find this is more of a fast passed experience and understand they are getting people in and out. I wouldn't consider them rude but probably annoyed they have to keep explaining the rules that are clearly posted outside and defend them to everyone all day long.
No cash/Only paperless payments. To keep their prices low, they get people in and out. There is no scanning of items, cash registers, etc. They count the number of items in your cart, apply the daily price per item and tell you the total. You scan/swipe to pay and you're on your way. I personally love the fast checkout.
My personal feedback and concerns- It can be very time consuming to look through items. Most boxes are unlabeled and you're left trying to find a small description on the barcode. When items are opened by the employees at the testing station, I do see they write on the boxes what was inside if it's put back out however the majority of items are unmarked. They need more testing stations. At most I've seen 3 employees working them but most people have multiple items to be opened and inspected at a time. I've waited in line for over a half an hour just for my items to be opened so I could determine if I wanted them. This is not a store to shop with your children unless they're good with waiting. I can see how this type of store can lead to fights amongst shoppers. Having items be brought out while people are shopping and then dropping a rope and telling people to "go" is going to create a sense of urgency and tension. I've seen people wrestling for bigger ticket items and for $14 I can understand why however it may not be the safest way to do things. I'm not sure what other ways would be better though to ensure fairness and protect the employees as well. I've been multiple times on different days and I've found some really great stuff I would never be able to get anywhere else at that price. I personally love the "hunt" and think a few hours of my time is worth the savings however most will find it too inconvenient. Overall I'm excited to have this store so close to me and am thankful for...
Read moreOkay new edit! Was there yesterday and had to update. To upper management; please go back to higher price/better stuff. I talked to some of the regular customers that frequent the store. I’d suggest higher prices with better merch. The people you’re attracting now are trouble. They’re willing to fight over JUNK. We know a lot of its knock offs, but I think it’s going to turn into a bad situation.
When they first opened they had good stuff and it was a lot of fun. Over time, it’s gone downhill. Seems like there’s more “stuff” but every week is the same items. If you need a stuffed animal for menstrual cramps or Christmas ornaments, go on quarter day. I hope they go back to the way it was. Edit: after their remodel- store looks better but the quality of the merchandise has dropped off significantly! Mostly junk! Made my last visit for a while today. I originally gave them 2 stars but now it’s 1. Don’t waste your time. I’ll stick to Macbids! Edit #2: it’s been almost 6 months since my first edit and I decided to do another. My wife and I decided to go today, Sunday February 11th. Wasn’t expecting much because it’s two days after restock but was pleasantly surprised! Hidden in a bin I found a brand new pair of gen3 Apple AirPods! For $7! So I decided I might start updating every time I go, just on Friday. Good experience, I’ll add a star, bad experience, remove one. I noticed a comment on their Facebook page that said “the more we buy, the better the product will be” I disagree. The better the products, the more I’ll buy. So it’s a management decision, do you want people to spend $$ in your store on Friday and get good reviews, or not? I added a star today subject to change on Friday. February 16th - disappointing. February 23 - same people (regulars) get the few decent items again. Talked to a couple of the other regulars and they’re getting tired of wasting Friday mornings. March 1 - Didn’t go because; I work. Just from their FB post it looked a little better, but they could be showing the few good things they had. Still doesn’t look worth my time. March 8 - it was a little better, not much, but a little. Same people in the front of the line got most of the good stuff. March 22 - honestly, I’d like to thank Management, purchasing, the owners, whoever was involved in the decision to only put a couple good items out every week. My wife and I would literally spend $400 every week in this store! On this Friday I didn’t buy one thing! The things I picked up to look at were all broken. Happy to say I’m giving up my Where Ya Bin habit! I have a feeling they’ll close soon and maybe relocate to another NEO area.. UPDATE: First time back on Friday in 2 months! Actually found some decent stuff! Glad I haven’t gone in a while because all the regulars told me it’s been awful for a while. Found my son a nice mouse and keyboard for his computer, but I think my best find was a dji mini 3 drone. I’ll try to attach a picture. Keep putting good stuff out and people will shop! Added 2 stars just for this reason. Update November 5th 2024- haven’t been to the store in months because, work… going to try to go next Friday. If I go I’ll definitely update again because my post has over...
Read moreIf I could leave 0 stars I would. I will most certainly never be going back after the way the employees acted today.
We just walked in the store and started looking at the first bin. I unzipped a bag to look at an item and an employees started very aggressively yelling at me. Now mind you, I had never been here before and the 30+ signs plastered all over the walls with a variety of rules state "do not open boxes." My thought was the boxes then get destroyed and employees have to retape them, ect. I did not realize that meant a zipper pouch could not be unzipped and then rezipped, as I was doing. I expressed this to the aggressive women and she proceeded to continue to scream at my mother and I. She also claimed we should have heard the manager yelling the rules across the room (the music was too loud to hear what the yelling man was saying). When I asked for who was in charge, the manager was walking up and handled the situation very poorly. He claimed he just transferred there to train the staff and needed more time to get them trained. He continued to justify the actions of the employees and claim that its due to the fault of the customers. While having this encounter with the manager, another woman came up and expressed the same employee screamed at her. He completely disregarded that women even spoke to him.
While I never want to go back to a place where staff are clearly allowed to treat customers in such a way, I have a few suggestions. If someone "breaks the rules," addressing them in a calm kind manner is a much more humane and acceptable approach. The "rules" should be more clearly stated to include you are not allowed to open anything at all, not just boxes and not just an expectation you will hear the command being yelled from across the room. If you are supposed to listen and hear the yelling from across the room, the music should not be so loud. The manager needs training on how to manage his staff and with his social skills. He was condescending and kept trying to twist our words to justify the awful customer service.
The worst experience I have ever had at a place of business. I suggest the Goodwill Outlet as a much better...
