Bonzai is my FAV Thai food in Charlotte and I'm not normally one to post bad reviews but this deserves the review... I went there at 11am on a week day and the restaurant was completely empty except one table of 4 people. They sat me in a booth, I have a back injury and it was just not comfortable for me. So I nicely asked if I could move to a regular chair, and pointed to the table next to me. She said yes but then directly me all the way across the restaurant to a seat facing the wall and in a corner. I couldn't even sit facing out towards the restaurant because the wall seat was a booth too. I was in a rush so I didn't complain. But at the end while paying I nicely told the server that I felt like she stuck me in the corner in time out facing a wall and maybe next time, if a single person comes in she should consider letting them sit somewhere else... she told me 'well you need to understand us, that we need to save those tables for 4 people. We always seat someone like you here...' I told her 'I understand but you literally have no one in here right now so I shouldn't have to sit and face a wall.' She said again 'you really need to try and understand our point of view...'
What! I'm sorry but that is SO rude. If they were slammed I would have totally not minded sitting where I was but the entire place was empty and she decided to put me in the worst seat in the entire place facing a corner and dirty wall. The owners need to train their employers better and be kinder to paying customers. I don't want to pay $22+ for lunch and be shoved in a corner facing a wall like a kid in timeout and then be told she is saving ALL the seats in restaurant for invisible customers who...
Read moreToday I ordered takeout at 6:51 and was told the order would take 35 min. Longer than what I would have like but okay I’ll kill some time. 7:25 I get there , check in with a very nice young man at the front desk. He goes to check on my food and I take a seat bc I’m like 5 min early. A lady whose name is Diane comes out. She proceeds to tell me she told me 45 min on the phone and shows me a ticket that say 7:02. I tell her I called at 6:51 (showed her my call log) and was told 35 min. She then says “well maybe by the time we’re off the phone it was 7, regardless you came to early.” This ticket says it’ll be ready at 7:50 so do you want to wait or not.” I tell her I’m already here so I wait. 7:48 the nice young man calls my name and and hands me my food. Diane said a ma’am and I look around to see if she taking to me and then says Melissa. I leave bc I’m not Melissa. The young man follows me outside and ask if I’m Melissa I said nope Brice and reviews the tag to make sure it’s my order. It is. Look on the bag and the time stamp on the bag says 6:52 and my order should have been ready at 7:28 when I got there. So my food was actually 20 min late and I wasn’t early Diane. Moral of the story is the attitude Diane was never necessary. Before you come out and tell someone they’re early and ask them if they still want the food and use terms like “regardless “ to dismiss their point make sure you’re talking to the right person. Make sure you’re being respectful. The food at Bonzai is tasty but it’s not worth a poor customer experience or nasty attitudes from people with little to no decorum or respect for the people paying for the goods and services that pay for...
Read moreWe were looking for some last minute takeout the other night. I had noticed this place getting good reviews so we decided to give it a shot.
We called in an order because their website said online orders were not working. We got an order of the spring rolls, the spicy basil fried rice, and the pad thai. They gave us an estimated wait time of 20-25 minutes. The one thing I didn't like is that it ended up taking 40 minutes. I wouldn't mind the longer wait time, but I would prefer to know upfront so I can wait at home.
The spring rolls were good, but nothing super special. Both of the entrees were delicious though. The spicy basil fried rice was probably the best fried rice I've ever had. It had really good flavor from the basil and just a little bit of spice to enhance it. The pad thai was also quite good.
There were a lot of things on the menu that looked good, so I will definitely be trying it again. This is definitely a good edition to the Steele Creek restaurant scene which is a little lacking at the moment.
This is now probably my favorite Thai restaurant in Charlotte. I'd definitely recommend...
