Smallcakes Steele Creek — Restaurant in North Carolina

Yesterday, my daughter and I visited Smallcakes, and I am extremely disappointed with the poor service we received. This is not the first time we’ve had an unpleasant experience at this particular location, but yesterday’s encounter left me very upset. I need someone to address this issue as soon as possible.

We recently moved to the area, and my daughter loves stopping here for sweets. Until now, we’ve never had any issues. However, during my birthday weekend on 2/22 and again on 3/6, I encountered the same young girl working behind the counter who is consistently rude and unprofessional. Yesterday was the final straw. Her attitude toward me and my toddler daughter was completely unacceptable.

We ordered ice cream, one cupcake, and macarons to go, and from the moment we approached the counter, her demeanor was dismissive and hostile. She rudely asked, “What do you want?” without any courtesy or professionalism. Concerned, I asked her if she was okay, but instead of responding appropriately, she looked over to her sister as if my question was somehow offensive. I understand that working with the public can be stressful, but this is now the second time I’ve experienced this kind of behavior from her.

What made the situation worse was how she handled our order. She slammed our items onto the counter and, when my toddler asked for a spoon, she tossed it at us in an incredibly disrespectful manner. How unprofessional and rude can someone be? To make matters even more uncomfortable, when I went to take a picture of the establishment, her sister confronted me and asked why I was taking a picture. I told her to mind her business, as I was well within my rights. As we were leaving, the young girl sarcastically said, “Have a nice day,” while her sister mumbled something under her breath.

This behavior is unacceptable, and I am deeply disappointed. I’ve always had great experiences with the Black women who work here—they’ve been kind, professional, and welcoming. This is not about race, but it’s worth noting that the customers in line before me received excellent service from this same young girl, while I was treated poorly. This pattern is concerning.

I will not be returning to this location until this employee is either retrained or replaced. I didn’t even want to pay for my items yesterday, but I did it for my daughter’s sake. Moving forward, I will take my business elsewhere unless this issue is addressed. I expect a response to this matter as soon...

This place is pretty amazing. I went there knowing they were good, but they somehow exceeded my expectations.

I wanted a cupcake so my wife said we should check them out. As soon as we walked in, the staff greeted us right away. I felt welcomed, like I just walked into my best friends house. The guy there recommended that I take the ice cream tour. I wasn’t there for ice cream, so I thought. I tried almost all of their homemade flavors. Other than the flavors I normally don’t like, everything was awesome.

After that, I told him I wanted some ice cream and a cupcake, so he suggested that I have a smash. Which is a cupcake split in half and 2 scoops of ice cream in between.

I went with the chocolate cream cupcake with blue Munster cookie and birthday cake for my 2 ice cream choices. Holy moly, I wasn’t ready. This is for sure something you need to split with someone as it was a little too much for me. Other than that, it was amazing. The ice cream and the cupcake were equally delicious. The cupcake was very moist and kind of reminded me of a hostess cake (which I love). The ice cream you could tell was homemade and is probably some of the best I’ve had.

I highly recommend this place and I can’t wait to try out more...

Exceptional cupcakes! Beautiful to look at and delicious to taste. Customer service is superb. I had a unique circumstance. I was hosting a virtual baby shower for my son and his wife. He lives in Charlotte and I live in Pennsylvania! As the hostess, I’m responsible for refreshments. How do I pull that off? I searched for a nearby bakery and found Smallcakes...what luck! The staff was cordial, the owner was remarkable. She offered guidance as asked and was very patient with my ordering. My son is dairy intolerant and she was able to accommodate that. She produced a special order of Vegan cupcakes. The selection of flavors, even the Vegan ones, was mind boggling. She even handled the means to get the order to his house nearby...she delivered them for me! A true test of outstanding customer service. At the start of the shower, they showed up at his house with their surprise refreshments. They were blown away by the array. They showed me the beautiful ( and tasteful in all ways!) presentation. They were decorated beautifully. So, if you’re looking for that special dessert treatment with exceptional service, this is the place to go. Thank you to all the staff, especially their sweet and...
