Showmars Denver — Restaurant in North Carolina

Shame on me for not trying this North Carolina staple sooner—and double shame for judging it as just another fast food joint. And align your expectations! This is still fast food! Just a step above.

On a whim, my wife and I stopped in for lunch yesterday. I hadn’t been to a Showmars in probably 20 years, and honestly, I’d forgotten what it was like.

I ordered the traditional gyro with fries, and my wife had the All-American Pita Burger with onion rings. You order at the counter, find a seat, and then they bring your food out on real plates—actual dishes you have to wash. I was shocked. In a good way.

My pita bread was excellent. The meat could’ve used a touch more seasoning, and the tzatziki was very tart—almost too tart for my taste—but still fresh and satisfying. The fries were perfect. My wife’s pita burger was solid, though the meat seemed more like gyro meat than a traditional burger patty. But those onion rings? Fire. Crispy, golden, and totally addictive.

We were genuinely impressed—and a little stunned, to be honest. The restaurant was clean, the service was fast and efficient, and the whole experience felt way above what I expected.

Next time, I’m trying the fish. We saw a few plates go by and they looked incredible.

No relish for the hit dogs, is the only dissappointment at this Showmars. It's like it's a southern thing not to put relish on dogs; so Showmars isn't the only one. But, today I had their petaburger with a side of mac n' cheese and a sweet tea.Great tasting mac n' cheese almost made me forget how good the pita burger was. The table could have stood a quick swipe but it wasn't bad. Quick service and polite with a couple of passes to check that we were good. I'm a bit hard of hearing and would have appreciated a bit more volume and clarity. My step son was there so that helped some. Good place to go, clean, friendly, quick, not all over you, but don't abandon you either. I'll go back when in the area, would recommend to anyone...

On May 16th around 6pm I was on an 1 hr lunch break. My order number was 97. I ordered a mini meal, shrimp and baked potato. I normally get in an out within 30 to 40 mins. Yet that evening after waiting over 40 mins still no food. Others were complaining about long wait times. One couple said they an hour for two pita burgers. I ask about my order and they haven't even started it. That is would be at least 10 to 20 mins longer. So I asked for my money back. Worked nearly 10 hrs with nothing to eat cause service was too slow. The girl serving the food told the couple who ordered the pita burgers that there were only two cooks and online orders were top priority. Thumps down on...
