This is an unassuming place in a small outbuilding on Hwy 42, which is under construction, but don't let that stop you! The food here is legit. I only deducted a star for atmosphere because it ain't fancy and it's always busy with limited seating. The food, however, is worth the hassle. Hubby ordered the pizza, which was spicy and crispy from their new pizza oven. He said the spice level was just right, and it looked delish! I couldn't sample it to confirm because of an allergy to some of the ingredients, but he ate almost all of it so I will say that's a huge endorsement. I ordered the Garlic Parmesan wings, and now I will never order them anywhere else. They douse their wings in tons of chopped FRESH GARLIC and FRESHLY GRATED PARMESAN and either olive oil or butter. Most other places use some type of pre-made sauce, but this wing sauce was absolutely made fresh, and the wings were juicy with just the right level of crispiness on the outside. I can't wait to try their Korean BBQ wings next.

I was excited to take my friends here who were visiting from out of town. I’d never been here before either, but the reviews set high expectations. This place was lackluster. They “didn’t” have wings and our waitress suggested the tenders tossed in the garlic Parmesan sauce, which consisted of raw garlic and oil thrown on top. The fries tasted as though they’d been fried in month old oil. The nachos were served with what seemed like a teaspoon of queso, Cold chicken and in place of salsa they used chopped tomatoes. Those wings that they mentioned they didn’t have were served to another table shortly after our food was served The service was less than sub par and our waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for anything. And to top it all off there was a small army of flies flying around. And I won’t begin to mention the grease pile next to the bathroom. Needless to say this place was definitely a disappointment.

First time here. My husband had 2 slices at work and insisted we go. This is one of those hidden gem type places. The place isn't large, however, people were standing at the door for.over 10 minutes waiting for a table. That's a sign that a place must be worth the wait. Upon entry the staff doesn't greet you, and you basically seat yourself (no sign to do this). We saw a woman come in before us sitting down. She told us to seat ourselves because that's what she did. After we sat down, we were greeted by our server. He was friendly and we told him it was our first time visiting and he took our drink orders and then our entrée orders. Now to the food: the sauce for the wings, homemade chips, and shrimp were delicious. Our pizza and our daughter's pizza were delicious also. Very light and thin. We also ordered a pizza to go. If you want good pizza in a cozy atmosphere, then this is the place for you.

Sun 3:30p: Order the usual when we do takeout at Tavern 42. Asked for "floppy chips", waitress says "oh you mean when their slightly undercooked?" and i confirmed.

Sun 3:50p: Wife returns home with food for family. No obvious issues with anyone elses order, but my "floppy chips" instead are potato slices that sat in a fryer just long enough to become grease sponges. The Salmon BLT wrap looks through and through like its been sitting in the same grease, so much so i cant even tell if the salmon is undercooked or its the grease.

Sun 3:55p: After trying to quick fix by tossing the chips in a fryer and removing the grease saturated lettuce, i decide to call down to get it replaced. I only live 5 minutes away and have done many takeout and dinein orders, taken out of town guests here, never had any problems so at most this should be just a short trip for my order to be replaced... youd think.

On the phone after explaing the issue she puts me on the phone with the manager. I explain the same thing to him. He tells me ok "let me call the owner and ill call you back". to maybe the less savvy theyd just go along but to me i went "???" because of the giant red flag standing in front of me. i explain to him how to handle the situation, "ill be there in 15 minutes, so use that time to start the order and call the manager and ill be there in 15 min". i dropped one F-bomb over the dog food they tried to serve me and who the owner doesnt trust her employees to make right. mainly out of frustration that was exacerbated by the fact that her staff probably did understand the problem but werent empowered to just make it right.

Sun 4:10p: I arrive with receipt, food order, and wifes card in hand. i notice one unusual thing. call it another red flag. there are signs ALL OVER the place saying "BE KIND OR LEAVE". gotcha. i know the code here. its a virtue signaling zone. they must have had some unkind customers come thru. keep my cool. Im seen right away and indicate i called down for my order to be replaced. (at this point im still not quite believing what the store mgr has told me). The manager then comes over and he says "ok and you said you want to swap out with the blackened chicken sandwich?" and i say yes then he says "ok let me call the owner and get her ok" and i said "you should have done that already, just refund the whole $38 order." i should add that he lets me know everytime he has to call the owner he has to wait for the owner to call back. i quietly ask "do you think everyone here would be happy to know it could take yall up to 30 minutes to even be able to decide if you can make an order right?" about the refund, the mgr says "yes but i have to call again for the refund". i ask isnt there a mgrs override? he says "the owner is probably watching everything right now on camera". then the owner calls and apparently wants to talk to me. i say "well hello CEO-in-chief", amazed that this much of the business structure is involved in a $38 messed up order. she defends the transaction by blaming me for ordering chips undercooked. the same chips her waitress communicated she understood, the same chips they made me tens of times, the same chips that never made me question the food safety of my order.

Sun 4:15p: im issued the full refund and the staff informs me the owner has asked me not to return. i say "sure thing, thanks" and leave.

This is bittersweet for me cause even tho im moving to a nearby town i still wouldve driven here occasionally and continued to host visitors and date nights, or maybe even just to get my paws on some of them tasty chips... but they dont want to be special anymore. they have signs all over their restaurant that indicate something's happening over at Tavern 42 to cause an unkindness epidemic. since i dont see these signs anywhere else, is it really that your clients became less kind? or maybe its the owner.... if this is how they want to run their business, all theyll be is a glorified dive bar. dont...

We use to love coming here and have spent thousands a year here! When there has been problems I have Never said 2 words! Tonight was a Joke. As I was walking in I was fixing my mask because I put the American flag mask upside down that I was wearing and without notice I was putting it back on as I walked in the door and a female screams across the restaurant for me to put a mask on. and i mean screamed and not nicely either. even though three-quarters If not everyone did not have a mask on. People are sitting there at tables with nothing on. Everyone staring at me. I step aside by the bathroom to call the owner aside to talk to her privately, how that was pretty embarrassing. I was not doing anything wrong or being rude or yelling or anything and a guy in a green shirt starts yelling at me so everyone can hear him. saying get out of her face and call the police when I didn't do not one thing wrong I was completely confused! That is/ was an absolute lie I never did get her face that's a lie a lie a lie! They said that just to justify how wrong they were! I said we will just go somewhere else and then they're like call the police, for what? I didn't do anything wrong I was polite and they were the ones that yelled at me and were nasty and embarrassing!! this was something I never ever come to think would happen at this establishment especially when typically we walk in and a beers at our spot!! this just absolutely saddens me!

*My wife was even socked on how it was scarmed at me and she was in a far corner!! And how fast they Escalated things!! then went 0-150. even when I was just trying to talk to the owner about how I was screamed at by her staff!! she said she never heard me one time but heard them fully the entire time!!

about 2 months ago, we had a problem because they didn't want to take our cash and was pushing for us to use our...

So I’ve lived over here for about six months and I’ve gone here probably on average once a month. I’ve eaten wings all over Johnston county I was always a big fan of Cleveland draft House which I still am . I way prefer Tavern 42 wings mainly because of the garlic Parmesan and the real garlic that you use. First of all I’ve never had bad service. I’ve been customer service all my life. I work in the retail industry. Managed 22 out of 31 years. But my experience today really was one of going the extra mile. I kept calling Tavern 42 for about 30 minutes and they were super busy I didn’t know that at the time but I’m thinking about maybe their phone lines are down. So I happen to get on their Facebook page instead of their main website and I see that it says you can send them a message and I usually respond within a few minutes which I thought to myself was pretty cool but do they really respond within a couple minutes? This is the difference of losing a sale to a competitor which I really didn’t want to, However we wanted some wings here. I decided to respond via Facebook messenger and they responded within one minute. Let me know that they were extremely busy and as I went to pick up my food I can see they were packed. But within a minute they responded and said we are so sorry we are very busy but I can go ahead and take your order. What? I thought to myself I’m like OK I sent about four different messages with my order and they responded within 1 to 2 minutes. it was because of this experience that help make another sale can you times that by how many people will read this.. Just so proud and thankful for the service and highly recommend these guys no matter what . Not to mention how busy they were the lady that brought my food out to me curbside was so pleasant and happy it makes all the difference. Keep up the...
