Tengu Japanese Steakhouse — Restaurant in North Carolina

Two years ago, my boyfriend and I went here and the atmosphere was wonderful! We stayed and had drinks and ate plenty of sushi. And it was delicious!

Just ordered takeout recently. When I went in to pick it up, I was greeted right at the door with a table that was baring entry. Weird.... aren't we done with the covid stuff? So, why the covid protocol??? I talked to the girl in the front and she was very nice. She handed me my order, and I left.

Upon getting in the car, I checked my order and it seemed to be right. So, I decided to try the spring rolls, which are my favorite! I took one bite and all I got was dough. There didn't seem to be anything else in the spring roll. And there was no taste or flavor to it.

I was extremely disappointed, not only with the service and the atmosphere that I was faced with when I entered the restaurant; but now the food as well!

I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. Perhaps they have an employee shortage...I don't know. But the food tasted like it came out of a Walmart store. In fact, the Dollar General spring rolls at home were better tasting and larger for less money.... I threw the ones that I bought from Tengu out and went home and made...

I could look past the fact that they only do takeout and delivery if only their food was worth it. Firstly, the prices online do not match their in-person menu. I brought this to their attention and they blamed it on google and that the online menu was from 2 years ago. I suggested that they add photos of their updated menu prices themselves and it was just one excuse after the other. There's a $1 difference in the sushi rolls I ordered compared to the online menu and an almost $4 difference with the hibachi prices. It may not seem like much but it adds up quick. I ordered steak and shrimp hibachi and some sushi. The hibachi was bland, the rice was chewy and tasted a day old like it had been reheated, the salad it came with was watery (the "ranch" dressing also tasted like nothing), the shrimp sauce tasted and smelled old, and the steak was just barely cooked to temperature. The only edible part was the shrimp.

You would think after 2 years they would update their menu so it just feel like false advertising and trying to swindle and lie to their customers.

We loved this place for many years, but will never go back after the experience we just had. We ordered a specialty sushi roll and asked the waiter to put the Spicy Mayo on the side. When the roll was served, the mayo was on the roll. We brought it to the attention of the waitress who took the food back to be fixed. We waited for several more minutes for it to be corrected. We ended up having to leave because of a movie and since the corrected sushi hadn’t been delivered asked the waitress to just remove the roll and bring the check. She came back saying the manager would not let her comp the roll because it had already been served and she couldn’t box up the incorrect roll because it was already trashed. Point being- we had to pay $12.95 for a sushi roll that we could not eat or take togo because the waitress messed up our order after being there for...
